Are you saying that yours is not a position to envy? LOL -I think I would agree with you.

Actually, I think the fact that you have allowed the local forums - i.e. discussion posts to happen has, perhaps, taken away the Letters to the Editor. And, yes, I'd agree that a lot of people are reticent to post anything under their names in this town. In some ways, Woodland is a lot more reactionary than Davis - probably because of the type of diversity here - growing Hispanic population, and the "other white non-hispanic" residents. People are afraid to have anything written under their real names.

That said, I wonder if, like some newspapers online and other media, you might consider having people "register" under a name to post on a forum. I recognize many repeat posters - but if there is an especially explosive topic, I feel that some just post and post and post under different names each time, spewing really divisive and hateful "opinions". If posters had to formally register their names they might think twice about what they are actually writing.

Just my "opinion".:-)

The only problem is that Jim Smith is not being forthright when he addressed letters to the editor. He and/or his staff do not take kindly with those who disagee with them.

They have pretended that they didn't get the letter(s) or claim it got lost, they have changed the content (in the name of editing). They have sabotaged, via their attempts to edit, letters in order to make the writer look bad or illiterate.

OMG

What is clear is that in a way, Topix has helped their readership because it's FREE and people are tired of paying money for their "paper."

Thank you Daily Democrat for giving a voice to those who would otherwise have none. Hope city leaders pay attention this time!

I guess it's true "everone's a critic". But really, if I got letters like that I'd want to throw in the towel...or develop thicker skin! As for the Rick E. I think he needs to up his meds.

In Sunday's paper on the Opinion's Page under the heading "Let The People Speak" a Woodland resident responded to this opinion. It was on the same page as "recession in coffee cups" and "a week without profanity" which you will find online but oddly you will not find Mr. Defty's opinion of Mr. Smith's opinion of you. So what's your opinion of that?

You are absolutely correct. If the poser, Smith wants letters we ought to write letters just like Mr. Defty's too.

Sullivan is not needed to run the Parks Dept when the to three executive officers were brought back part time. His 10percent raise was just a scheme he and Gentry came up with to get a raise because the city council
rejected both of their raise requests amidst budget cuts for all other employees as they should have.

Quit trying to sell us on raise. It is greed with a capital G and speaks volumes about Sullivans poor leadership when he asked all his officers to take the pay cut making them believe he was in the same boat. NOT!

The editor replies: Thanks for the information. The letters were uploaded for the web the same as everything else for that page. I don't know why they didn't appear on line. Again, thanks for the heads up.

Interesting how the editor replies, yet we still do not have the letter posted on line for comments. What swift non-action....

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Aquarius

Try to avoid arguments with your family and friends. You will be less than satisfied with the way things are around you. Keep the peace with your parents. If you are working, the pressure will be on, but after hours the mood really improves! Relax and get enough rest. This will revitalize your energies and let you take advantage of your strokes of genius.
