How about a new, fireproof, homeless shelter instead? That seems more practical to me.

Let the Trolley travel from West Paris across town to Wal-Mart. It would allow the people some form of transportation to get their groceries, etc. It could stop at the Post Office, Banks, Krogers, Mirabeau, Wal-Mart, and repeat it all day. It might take an hour round trip. That way it could kind of have a schedule. I like the idea for practicality as well as charm.
Any other ideas?

Although I agree a new homeless shelter is needed, a trolley would bring in more tourist dollars and would help those around the community that do not have regular transportation get to the places they need to, safely. The many "hover around" (electric wheelchairs) I see and avoid on the road DAILY are NOT safe or legal transporation.

Th city of Gainesville has one. Big nice new looking trolley that passes through all the motel parking lots and picks people up, takes them to the mall and downtown. There's a 1-2 hour back and forth schedule starting around 10 or 11 in the morning and running until 6 or 7 at night IIRC.

One does not preclude the other. The people who want the trolley are out raising the funds for it. The people who want a homeless shelter should do likewise.

there are so many fine christians in town you wouldn't think that doing something christ-like such as providing shelter for the homeless would be a problem. but you would be wrong. but as far as the trolley goes, i think its a great idea. austin just cut its free "dillo" routes and has many of the trolley style buses available for sale.

How about a trolly with a back compartment for the homeless to sleep in. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone that way.

Yikes. Homeless people on the trolley would cause teen pregnancies to increase.

What I'm wondering is who would pay for the upkeep, the driver's salary and the insurance for this? While I think it would be a nice thing to have, I can also thing of other issues the city needs to work on.

How about Traxx and the Yellow Cab company?

They will take you to wall mart and everywhere else.

Ohh by the way can the trolly go to sun valley or toco so I can buy a gallon of whiskey?

A true trolly rides on rails as in steel and not rubber tires so add up the money for rail and right away if it's intent is to go from west to east

Great idea. Am sure everyone would ride a slow trolley to Walmart in 100F heat to buy their groceries. And there are so many great sites to see in Paris, like the boarded up buildings downtown. Someone needs to get a grip - there are many more important things to work on in Paris.

They are raising private funds for it. It is not a city project -- It is a Chamber of Commerce project. The primary purpose is tourism.
