Cell Phone reception along the Klickitat River

I was amazed to find that I have cell phone reception (U.S.Cellular) along part of the Klickitat river on state highway 142 in the Klicktiat area...I onl yhave 1 bar but it allows me to get out & receive calls at times. I feel safer now,when driving down in the big black hole.Does anyone know what happened to make reception better there?
