sympathy to the families involved...

"The driver of the 2002 GMC Yukon, David Scarapicchia, 30, of Floral Park, was charged yesterday with vehicular manslaughter and driving while intoxicated" = when are people ever going to learn, TAKE A CAB....save your own life as well as others. obviously he didn't care about his actions, so hopefully the courts won't care about putting him away for a long time, very long time. MURDERER

when is the drunk driving madness going to stop? a drunk is not thinking about what happens to him/her in the event of an accident. kind of like beer muscles,oh i can drive,i am fine. it is coming to the point where every car should have a breathilzer test machine before you put in the key.

My condolences to the family, but didn’t I read that the women made a left turn into the path of the GMC Yukon? Has a toxicology report on the victims been done? Seems like they were wrong from a traffic perspective. While no impairment figures have been given for the Yukon’s driver, there are a lot of people who operate at almost full capability at the very low tolerance figure that we've chosen as 'intoxicated'.
I think some of you need to back down some with your charges of 'murderer'. Many of us could be minding our business, returning from a nice dinner out where a few glasses of wine were served, following all traffic rules and regulations... and have some fool drive their much smaller, lighter car out in front of us making a collision unavoidable.

Whether you agree with the law or not and think you could drive after a few glasses of wine it is still dangerous and illegal to drive intoxicated. You feel your OK, let's say going with your thought that the driver was only slightly buzzed and some "idiot" pulls in front of him, whose to say that if he hadn't drank before he got behind the wheel of the car his reflexes wouldn't have been better and he could have avoided hitting the car.
IT'S VERY SIMPLE DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE PERIOD!!!! They life you save may be my loved ones.

And the woman driver of the car that was hit might have been better off not making an illegal U-turn as she was doing.(according to firefighters who responded to the scene to extract the woman)
You can keep trying to paint this with your zero tolerance brush, but the woman driving the car that was hit would have been hit by anyone driving in that place at that time. Fault is fault. AND YOU ARE A DICK.

You seem to think you know quite a bit sweetheart, but YOU COULDN'T HAVE AVOIDED THAT CAR ON YOUR VERY BEST DAY DRIVING UNDER IDEAL CONDITIONS. Sometimes people just do stupid, suicidal things in front of you. It is a shame the driver of the Yukon tested over the limit because he was just an innocent non-participant in this wreck. I don't understand how you assign fault to the driver that DIDN'T CAUSE THE WRECK. Sober people make mistakes too, don't they?(and we don't yet know if she was sober)

1. In the 19 years that I've know her Jania Torosian did NOT drink. Especially drink and drive. Yes, autopsy was done.
2. That IS a legal turn. The yellow line is open in front of 2nd Avenue.(check google map or come down here and check for yourself and there are NO no-U-turn signs).
3. She was NOT making a U-TURN. She was making a LEGAL LEFT TURN from 2ND AVENUE to go South which she has been doing for the last 6 years every weekend.
4. There are no tire marks/skid marks. The GMC did not hit the breaks at all which is a sign of no reflexes due to intoxication.
5. I graduated with the GMC driver even tho he should have been a year a head. He wasn't much of an upstanding citizen then and he truly proved his worthlessness on 10/6/07.
6. Unless you're head is deep up you SOUTHBOUND. Everyone knows in every car accident the drunk driver is always held responsible; thats why you shouldn't drink and drive.

You know I was actually reading what you said and trying to see it from your point of view until for whatever reason (misplaced anger maybe) you had to resort to name calling. What an absolutely mature response to someone posting their opinion. BTW- Wrong gender to be a dick, but I take it you are?

No matter what, you cannot defend any type of drinking and driving. How dare you all post comments that would be so upsetting to the families involved of both the driver and the deceased. You should all be ashamed.

INNOCENT NON-PARTICIPANT HMMMM LET ME SEE DRINKING AND DRIVING INNOCENT....JACKASS So he was in the right to get behnd the wheel and speed down Jericho turnpike and and have no reflexes at all and may have been able to avoid what happend if he didn't have ALCOHOL in his system, there were no skid marks at all which proves he never saw it coming, get your facts straight before you shoot your mouth off...and she did not drink at all and had the right of way to make a legal left turn...AND I AM NOT YOUR SWEET HEART!

Whether you thought he was stand up guy or not that night he wasn't the minute he stepped behind the wheel drinking, he killed a woman is the bottom line how much of a stand up person is he now!

Daily Horoscope for January 4

Taurus

If your goals are fairly modest in the short term, they are achievable and you're likely to get some praise for achievements along the way. If you aim too high too quickly, others might not take you seriously or think you're being uppity and you could come unstuck. It's all a question of attitude and approach. There are contradictory influences over the next ten days but there could also be good luck coming your way.
