I think it's going to take more than just one potato processing plant to revive this lagging economy. I must admit that it is a start, but other things must happen to get the attention of employers who would like to bring jobs to this community. I grew up in Tallulah, and I'm aware of the dirty politics that have plagued this city for years. To get better paying jobs to come to this area, people in positions of authority must do the right thing.

Apparently Conagra did not do their homework before they picked this site. If they plan on doing pre-employment drug testing they will have a hard time finding help in northeast Louisiana. Their best hope is to hire away the illegal aliens in West Carroll Parish since it is a sanctuary parish. As Pastor-j-wiscons in may be able to recall, northeast louisiana's last great hope was the Airco Carbon graphite plant that Brown and Root Construction attempted to build at the Madison Parish Port in 1980. The locals that made their priorities addiction over education were successful in running the plant off to Puerto Rico. Everything since then for the most part has been linked to organized crime and the drug trade. The drug trade flourished after Buddy Caldwell became district attorney. I wonder where his is now?

I do not know where old Buddy is right now, but my guess, he's somewhere laughing at the mess he made. Tallulah used to be a great little city when we grew up in the 70's. I was not impressed with Tallulah upon my return. It seems like the people don't care about themselves. If you do not care about your self, dont expect anyone else to care either. Many of the people I grew up with went on to do something with their lives, but some stayed and have done absolutedly nothing. I was with the class of '81 before I moved north after my sophmore year. Drugs not only deteriorate small cities like Tallulah, but larger cities as well. The problems seems more magnified in a smaller community, but that is no excuse. Fact is the leaders had no vision, and Tallulah suffered from this oversight. From poverty comes drugs and degradation. I just think that someone needs to step up and be the example.

I have said this before and i will say it again,i'm here in Talluah and i care about this town, but i never left and for anyone who did then you lend a hand to help too.I'm tired of former Talluah people who have left made there living and come home and say it's nothing here.I Pray for this little town and maybe just maybe somone will come back and give back,if nothing else knowledge to help us and not make it worse by telling us the dirty little secrete that we already know.

My point exactly. It only take one man to start a fire, but many to fight it. I must care about Tallulah and its future existence to be here in Wisconsin and try to start a fire in my hometown. Much love to you for praying and caring (II Chronicles 7:14). My hope is that others will read this and get involved. Who knows, potato factory today, technology corporations tomorrow. Let your voice be heard.
