Check out the stories about the prison riot in CCA's detention facility in Adams County, Mississippi. This one houses immigrants who are doing felony time bafore being deported. I wonder if the aftermath will be truthfully reported. Same old story, the for-profit corporation is the same nation wide. Remember the Jonestown,Ohio facility riot and the casualities.

Yes, if the state doesn't take over CCA Winn, the ones who risk their lives should bring in a Union - ORGANIZE!

I agree with you, The pay-scale is not worth putting your life on the line daily, and at the present time Winn CCA is out of control.

Prison guard is one of the least hazardous jobs in the U.S.

Fishermen are the ones who put their lives on the line every day, and loggers are near the top.

Even garbage collecting and truck driving are much more dangerous than being a prison guard.

Not much hazard involved in sitting on your ass.

Just a prison and a Corrections officer are two things. A guard just sits and watches (carefully) such as Tower Guards and Field Crew officers. Corrections officers are down the walk working the convicts, slinging iron and working the Tact Team and Cell Entry Teams. Not everyone is able to do these assignments.

I saw a great deal of cowardice when I was at WNC in 1990-1994. You get what you pay for and CCA doesn't pay well for security. There's a lot of good Corrections Officers at WNC that deserve better than what they get on payday.

ORGANIZE!

Anyone that thinks the State has all the answers should read some their track records on prisons. Almost every month they have one escape and take for ever to get them back. They have issues with their employees just like CCA. They pay scale is not any better at State run facilities either.
Why not give these folks doing this job a thank you some times instead of knocking them? When is the last time that Winn had an inmate escape and wind up in your back yard?
So sad about the death of the officer, but it was not a Winn officer. He was from a facility in Mississippi. And that happens at State run facilites also. It is a possible hazzard of the job.

Ok first things first. David you need to quit trying to start crap. You've been pushing that "organize" issue down throats long enough and as a Former WNC Warden said once and i quote "Its a dead horse so quit trying to ride it."
Second-Frankie....For your information the job of correctional officer IS a dangerous job. There are roughly 8,000 assaults on correctional officers each and every year. Over a 30 year stretch that's 240,000 assaults out of which more than 200 correctional officers have died in the line of duty. It may not be the most dangerous job in the united states but i think if you ask the 239,800 officers that survived their assaults they may tell you its pretty damn dangerous. If you still don't think so then ask the 200 that died!

compare those numbers to the amount of corrections officers and jailers that there are in the whole country and look at the percentages. it's not as dangerous as you are trying to make it out to be.

you ever worked in a prison? been down in the cells with the inmates? wait i know, you saw a prison movie once on TV. Unless you've been there and saw the end result of a riot or even a housing unit take over don't tell me what you think the danger level is. my numbers quote is across the whole country over the last 30 years.

Second: get over it again.
Third: Your former WNC warden worked in a secured/ safe area.
Forth: You must work in a secured/ safe area.
Fifth: My comrades & I started your alledged crap 20 years ago.
Sixth: I'll stop when your crap is organizeed.
OR
Seventh: I'll stop when the Corrections Officers are treated fairly.

Just really curious to know. With all your supposed experience and knowledge of corrections, why did you ever leave. You try to come off as the master of corrections with all the answers. So why did you leave CCA if you were really "All That"?

I guess it boils down to some do it and some watch from the side lines and try to coach it. If you have so much dislike for this business why do you try to act like you care at all? Maybe you thought more of yourself than you should have?

First: you're an idiot
Second: You're an ass just like you were at WNC
Third: Of course he did. He was a warden
Fourth: My job is just as dangerous now as it was when i worked at WNC.
Fifth: 20 years=long ENOUGH! let it go and get over it.
sixth AND seventh: There will never be a union at WNC as long as they don't WANT one. If they DID want one they would have it or figure out a way to MAKE it happen.
Final note: Just saying is right. You think you are more important then you really are...just like you did at WNC. That's why you use different names on here so that it looks like someone is agreeing with your ignorance. So again get over it and get over YOURSELF you corrections god wanna be.

Oh and on the subject of unions. Unions can be helpful OR hurtful. Question for our know it all wanna be corrections god. Would you work for free on a job? Yes? No?

Well if you are in a union and they vote to work the job for free then i guess you would.

The city i work in is facing not being able to pay their government employees. This includes the city police, fire fighters and DPW employees(who BTW are all three union) Our union reps for these have decided that the employees WILL WORK even if they cant be paid and i quote from the morning newspaper "for as long as it takes for this city to get financially sound again." Personally I'm glad they are doing that and i salute them but i feel sorry for the employees cause I'm pretty sure some don't agree with the reps

Who cares! The city you live in is not the town of Winnfield. Shut up and focus on your own community!

No, I do not work at Burger King. I have worked a lot of jobs, including corrections. I have had a job since I was 14 and now I am a very mature person in age. At this time I am employed although I could retire. But if I did work at Burger King there would not be any insult in working there. At least it is honest work and I salute anyone that has the gumption to go to work each day even though they are not making a fortune at it.
Even though I am about the same age as you, I have chose to keep working and not sit around just being bitter all day on the computer. You need to get off of here and spend some time enjoying your retirement with Ms.P.
And again, Thanks to the guys and gals that work fast food. You are not thanked enough.

Boy dipthong we should all call you peat and repeat. You're like a broken record. As for me, i can multi-task wonderfully. I can worry about WNC, Winnfield AND this town all at the same time while you have trouble walking and chewing bubblegum at the same time so I think it's YOU that needs to shut up because you've already said everything you've just said before and no one wanted to hear it the first time most-less the second.

Get personal bitch! You're off topic and still clueless. Work down the walk, in the dorms and on the yard like we did.....than maybe you'll understand!
