Put garage on old landfill, not park, Winnetka residents say

A discussion on a new garage isn't the type of issue that usually draws people to a community meeting.

Why not build one multi-story building?

Not THE most pointless and boring story ever to pop up in the Tribune, but close. Very close. Nice work.

Boy, the things that people with lots of dough get involved with. They're never around to volunteer helping disadvantaged kids or anything like that but if you threaten an old tree or some house's architecture they come out like vultures.

As a former resident (the place is SEVERELY overtaxed and even more overrated) it's amazing that anyone would ever consider building in the middle of the park/golf course in the first place. You don't need to waste thousands of dollars and years to figure that out. The existing brand new public streets and waste management building is right next to the landfill and on Willow Road so cross traffic apparently did not play that much of a role in the past. The real question is who are the rats who want to destroy a public park to protect their rights to a landfill ?

Speed, it takes decades to grow a nice, mature tree. Old, historic houses can't be replaced. But there are millions of disadvantaged kids with thousands more arriving every day. The houses and trees are rare, beautiful, and irreplacable, the disadvantaged kids are not.

How come every story in the Tribune that is not within the city limits of Chicago is about Wilmette, Winnetka, or Evanston? Are there any other regions, or do they not patronize Tribune advertisers?
