UUUH..........last time I checked, property taxes go to pay for schools!!

You have to OWN PROPERTY and PAY TAXES.

Wilmette/Winnetka better get ready to file a suit to prevent the CPS students from entering.

When Round Lake Schools were almost BK a few years ago, our district filed a lawsuit to keep those kids out!!

If I am correct suburban schools have residency requirements. How will they get around this?

Yes they do and there is no way around it, he's pipe dreaming and giving false hope.

I moved from Chicago to Frankfort and when registering him here I needed not only my drivers license showing the address in the district, but my real estate closing papers, and 5 other proofs of residency

So if they want their kids in the schools they are going to have to physically move, oh yeah school starts 3 weeks from today.

No Child Left Behind does not pertain to this, it only pertains to transfering your child within the CPS system

This is what we pay taxes, high at that, for. There is no inequality, you know the expression you get what you pay for? Exactly

If you're so mad about the inequality, then why do you still live in the city? The city schools are a dump... and no longer is it "less expensive" to live in the city. It's actually less expensive to live in the suburbs...

Get off your soap box and move out of the dumps and into civility.

I pay high taxes to live in Buffalo Grove so my children can go to a good school. The parents of those inner city students can do the same--but no way can they attend the schools in my community without living in my community. This stunt will not work, and Rev Meeks is an a** for thinking it will and giving the parents of the inner city students false hope.

Additionally, as stated by the CPS rep, attendance on the first day dictates what funding the school receives throughout the year. I guess the good old rev has his head up his butt--he causing CPS to loose funding!!!

What an idiot.

As usual, the black community LOVES to blame anybody and anything but themselves. It is called "PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY" and "PARENTING," butr those aren't concepts most of the ghetto crap undersatnd, nor do they want to.

More rantings from the biggest racist in the State Senate, and that is some pretty august company.

He should just keep on ripping off people in that faux church he runs in Roseland.

To the Reverend: How about encouraging the students that it's about working hard and achieving. It's about having a two-parent household where the parents are actually married. It's not being "white" to want to work hard. It's about climbing out of the filth and the fatherless culture, and get out of the neighborhood that seems to raise kids to be thugs with a lifespan of 20 years. No amount of money into CPS will make any difference until the learning starts at home.

That's great, except that none of them are "residents" of the school district. And it's not going to solve the larger problems at home.

If I was a New Trier parent, I'd be pretty concerned. Want to bet that the gangbangers who wouldn't normally show up for the first day of school in the CPS will show up Sept. 2 if it means a free bus trip to Winnetka for the day?

In the end, how much is spent per student only means so much. It costs nothing for a kid to pay attention in class and just do the damned homework. But again, it's somebody else's fault. I bet more money, time, and other resources could be spent on academics in the inner city schools if less had to be spent on discipline, social workers, security guards, etc.

New England: you have made a very valid point. If they didn't have to spend so much on "safety" problems, they could spend more on acedemics.
The kids need to be taught respect for others and disciplined at home, that would transfer into their school work and things may get better. Point being, the work needs to start at home. It do NOT cost a thing to pay attention and try to learn. If you still have a problem with the district youare in, don't keep the kids home, that will only teach them that it is ok to skip school and that you may get a reward for it. Teach them to try, to study, and respect themselves and others and not to expect things to just be given to them because of who they are, where they live or what race they are. It isn't about race, or religion- It is what you make of the opportunities given to you that makes you succeed or not.

Did anyone watch Reverend Meeks on Fox this morning? Now its not only the first day of school he wants to do this but until funding is done by the governor.

To the people that are concerned that the kids will get in these schools, h*e*l*l* will freeze over first because of the keyword RESIDENCY and proof of it.

Hey if he wants more money spent on those kids, then the parents need to pay more taxes. I have no kids yet I still have to pay for someone elses kids to go to school. Then at tax time people that have kids get even more tax breaks because they didn't use protection and have kids. So Rev. keep the kids in thier own community and pay more to make the community better. Why mess up someone else's education. Make yours better.

You people kill me....So scared that your precious children will be effected by this bold move on the Senator/Pastor's part. I am like hundreds of parents WILL support this step out of the "scared" mentality that some african americans live and breathe in....If we do not take stand, you negative people sure won't on our behalf, the truth is that there is a gross and apparent diffence as to how the CPS students are being funded for the education for our children that is our God given right. There is a $8,000.00 difffence in the amt of funds that go to our children's education...You all need to become more eduacated about this distrubing math statistic , but then again it's not your children being affected, so that why you don't give a damn. Get the facts. It is criminal that kids in the more affulent areas of the burbs get to study and expand on the top of the line materials, computer, books etc....meanwhile CPS get 3 computers for 40 children to share.....Get over it! We will demand change! and your blogs and comments are pointless and a waste of time. Nobody reading them but narrow minded racist people such as yourselves. If this were affecting YOUR precious children, You would attempt to remedy this situation like we are...If Dr. Martin Luther King had never stood up for what's right and ethical, African Americans would still be drinking out of the "coloreds Only" water fountains and sitting on the back of buses! It's time for change....Why not begin with CPS. FYI: Rev. Meeks knew beforehand that people like yourselves would oppose this bold move....Guess what? He doesn't care what you all have to think....He answers to a MUCH HIGHER AUTHORTY than a bunch of "haters". on a racist blog.
By the way... Not all black kids are ignorant or shiftless...No more than all white kids are meth abusers...My daughter was the Salutatorian of 2008 class with a better grade point average than some of YOUR children.:-)
God Bless...

People like you make me sick. You feel like you are slighted by society, not getting a fair shake, etc., and all you do is whine and protest.

Instead of whining, why don't you work harder so that you can move your precious children to a better area where the schools are better?

Of course, you won't do that because it is far easy to whine and let the stupid puppet politicians pander to you than it is to actually get up and do something for yourselves.

Success and good things come to those who work hard, and apparently this is true nowadays for those of you who choose to whine, complain, moan and fuss because you don't like how things are going for you and your precious children.

You want a better education for your kids? Save the energy that you spend on whining and use it to work harder!
