Pelfrey showed me a lot today. He had mediocre stuff and he had to overcome a small strike zone, several bloop hits, & a couple of errors. But he battled every inning & kept the Mets in the game despite facing batters with FIFTEEEN runners in scoring position. Pelfrey is still learning how to pitch, but he's a tough competitor.

Release Delgado between games, let him end his Mets career on this amazing performance. 9 ribby's, ok, against a sorry yank bullpen, but still. Willie said his big boy would heat up. Unreal

Unreal We can't figure this team out...They get embarrased 3 nights ago by the lowly Mariners and today they score 15 runs against a much better team. We can't figure out which team is going to show up. I hope they can score some more for Pedro. Does that mean with Delgado's performance today that his stock has risen for a potential trade??? Just kidding. What about Castillo???? Gets on base 5 times and scores each time. Heh Old School....don't praise this guy anymore.....keep cursing at him like you did the other day...it seems to be working.

#%$*# Mets!!! You blew the Yankees out, 15-6, in the first game at the Stadium. Then, come home and go into a funk and are losing, 7-0! Pedro appears only having enough stuff that lasts for four to five innings max.
You were on the verge of making a statement here in NY and to the NL East towards making a push. This is why you get booed at Shea! We're tired ofthe Jekyll & Hyde routine!

BTw, history was mae today in Yankee Stadium! The Mets swept the Subway Series at the home of the Bronx Bombers and are the last NL team to play at the historic ballpark. The Yankees will not appear in the WS because they will not be a playoff team. Therefore, by sweeping the three games at Yankee Stadium, the Mets secure their position as the last NL team playing and winning at the House that Ruth Built!

So the Mets lose to the Yankees and Sidney Ponson at Shea. Wasn't Ponson picked up as a DFA? Once again, the Mets make a mediocre pitcher look like Sandy Koufax!

Yeah, Reyes & Castro had the key at-bats in the game, both with the bases loaded in consecutive innings. The Yankees had Igawa warming up early in the game & one hit would have ended Ponson's night. Reyes actually lunged at the 1st pitch instead of being more patient. Castro got a "hit me" fastball on a 3-1 count, but he hit it into the ground. After the Mets let Ponson off the hook, the Yankees gained momentum. They wore down Pedro & never looked back. TMAN-METS wrote: <quoted text> No offense in the night cap though. The truth is masked by Delgado's game one explosion. He exploded off of minor league caliber pitching the Yankees middle relief offers. He can no longer be a consistent hitter, much less carry a team for a period of time. Since he was a DH in game one, this would be a great time to market him NOW to an AL team seeking a DH. The Mets should not bring him back next year anyway. He can no longer pass for a major league caliber first baseman. The Mets are last in the league in a stat which measures the number of ground balls hit to the right side that are fielded by the first baseman or second baseman. The lack of range by Delgado and Castillo is one of those "little things" hurting this team a great deal and 9 RBI in one game does not balance the runs allowed by this side of the infield this season. Meanwhile, the Yankees middle relief and set-up is laughable while the Mets pen makes you cry. Mariano is the only "lights out" reliever for either team. Both the Mets and Yankees have glaring deficiencies that will prevent them from becoming post-season factors.

displaced Mets fan wrote: Another guy to keep an eye on is Caleb Stewart who is also on that AA team. Batting .290 (51 hits in 176 AB's) with 7 HR's and 28 RBI in 51 games.. Of those 51 hits, 14 are doubles, 2 triples and 7 HR's. Kid has got some pop. Carp and Evans are still pounding the baseball....the best part of what I see in these kids (including Stewart and Murphy) is that they have been consistent all year long. Omar better keep his hands off and not make a stupid trade and give up any of these guys. They could be a good foundation along with F-Mart to build on with Wright and Reyes as their leaders. Dis - I was trying to find Murphy's stats & they don't have him on the roster at Binghampton, and he is not on the AAA roster either. What happened to him? Stewart has played 20 games at AAA & was demoted to AA. Batted .221 OB%.268 & slugging .377 at NO and he's 26.

Omar needs to add better hitting help than Trot and Phillips. Have to believe Trot is odd man out when Church returns, could be Tatis though. Trot was being looked at to bring some grit to the clubhouse. Phillips could fill Tatis role.

Brian wrote: <quoted text>Thats because the mets SUCK that bad ya dewshbag moron! Well...the score of the first game was 15-6 in favor of the Mets. This means that they swept the Bronx Bombers at Yankee Stadium. There was no concern about Yankee history, pride, or their 26 dust collectors. Brianna, as bad as you think the Mets are in your silly posts, right now the Yankees are worse than that!

Hate to see Reyes in a break open spot. He mostly manages to get himself out with home run swings when just meeting the ball could get the job done. He never seems to try to work the count.
