Just be careful after approx 15 miles down from Weeki Wachee stay on your right as it is easy to miss the cut-off. You will be taking Fort Harrison Ave through Clr. which is a little congested, but not too bad. Then when you get down to Bellaire Rd you will have to decided if you want to stay on A19 or take Clr. Largo Rd. which I'm not familiar with. You should be Ok with this route after all. OK Pete....Thanks! Based on the map. 19 ALT seems to be closer to the coast which was why I was leaning towards taking it. I thought I would check with you first before I get caught in a traffic nightmare.

Rays sweep Fish. Garza pitches complete game allowing 1 hit (HR) Fish lead majors in HR's. Garza problems have been with his temper which he has vowed to control, and seems to be doing so. Big strong kid, 24 yrs old. Little over 100 pitches and was still throwing 96 mph. It took the Rays a long time to get to this point but it was because the previous owners were more interested in European soccer then the Rays. It's taken the new owners 3 yrs. to build a good pitching staff. It also helped to develop these young guys when they got rid of Pinella who was a total self centered flop. This kid has the makings of being the ace of the staff and yes, over Kazmir. Well anyway the Rays gave the Mets some help toward overtaking the Fish. The Rays team is built to an all around a good pitching staff. The rest of the pieces are gradually falling into place. The kid playing third base (Longoria) is another Wright with a better arm and a power hitter. Makes the big plays with lots of confidence at 22 yrs. of age. The only problem the Rays have is with the closer at 38 yrs. old and hurting with a ham string. If Omar doesn't get the message when he sees what a young team like this can produce, then the Wilpons are very foolish to continue on the path he has taken them. He really should be replaced.

That belongs to the Mets now. I think the Rays will be sharp enough to get some additional help for the bullpen. They can always call on the Mets...we can offer Feliciano and Heilman for Garza....we will even throw in Castillo to sweeten the pot.

The Rays look loaded for bear - too bad their fans aren't on board yet. As for being a blueprint for success, they are, but only for a small (very small) market. There is no way a team with a healthy budget would ever break things down to the point where the entire roster is under 25 with a couple of cheap vets. Think of some of the teams they fielded in the past 10 years; that would never work in an established market (at least unintentionally). If the Mets, for instance, were to duplicate the Rays or Marlins formula, they would have already shipped out Reyes and Wright for a bevy of minor league talent. Repeat that cycle for several years and you get a low-payroll major league club with great young talent and a loaded minor league system. Let's see if the Rays spend to keep enough of that talent around to seriously contend. Hopefully they do because they should be rewarded for all that losing. The Mets don't need to follow their lead; they just need to make smarter decisions across the board.

Sad thing is this division is up for grabs. One more productive bat could allow the Mets to steal this thing. That Marcus Thames in Detroit has had a big month hitting Hr's. Tigers still need pitching/bullpen help.

Pete, since the Mets have a depleted farm system & nobody wants their overpaid under-achievers in a trade, Omar has to think out of the box. T-Man's suggestion about Bonds might have been extreme, but it will take some creativity to improve the Mets' roster this season. Hell, Minaya can't even find a legitmate back-up for the crippled Castillo. Clearwater Pete wrote: <quoted text> Stay cool States: T-Man has been away awhile and he's loaded for bear. Thames might not be available for awhile. Did you see him attack the ump yesterday afer a called strike three? Now that was a BUMP, not like the love-tap that Runge gave to Jerry Manuel. Hi Hi! Yeah the Rays are looking good these days and we hope the tide doesn't turn wrong. A few injuries here and there and the whole picture could change.

The Rays still lose front page coverage to the Buc, Fla. State,Gators etc. Mangement of the Rays have been promoting with all the gimmickry possible. When the good teams come in (Cubs,Sox,Yanks etc.) they draw 35 to 40 thousand. Rest of the time they are under 15 thousand. In our local paper today, the principle owner of the team said, for the team to be competitive they will need more corporations to buy season tickets.

In order to do this right we need to hire PT Barnum as GM. Although Omar does have the right to use PT's catch phrase "There's a sucker born every minute". I think that's Omars business rule.
