They want the Mets to overpay for their stars. And to those who will tell me you have to give up something to get something, you are right. But these GM's want you to give up EVERYTHING and it seems if they wait long enough, some idiot's going to give them EVERYTHING, like the D'Backs. Regarding Valverde, the reason he was traded for marginal players is because despite some of his numbers, he's only a marginal pitcher. I'm glad the Mets didn't go after him either. He's another hothead who loses it when things don't go his way and blew 7 saves and had 4 losses. Twice the amount the fans would accept as reasonable numbers. He's another Benitez as far as I'm concerned. When the going gets tough, he's nowhere to be found. He's a little crybaby on the mound, just like Zambrano of the Cubs. I can't stand players like that. I said it before RC that these GMs should go around with a mask and a gun because they want to stick you up and rob you of as many prospects as they can. Their pennants should be skull and crossbones. I'm glad Omar hasn't capitulated.

Mostly everyone on this site has been rightfully ripping Omar but I am happy that he is not giving up what could be the future for one guy. This team as it stands now is nowhere close to winning a WS just by adding a Santana or a Haren. Not with the likes of Castillo, Church, Alou, and Schneider in the lineup everyday as I've stated previously. This is going to be a looooong season. Even if they were close, I'd rather sacrifice possibly one winning year to gamble on several down the road.

That's why I would rather give up a Beltran now for 3-4 young players including pitchers who are major league ready. I don't see us going very far this year either so what's the point of keeping an expensive contract where you can turn around and build for 2009 and many years to come. Of course trading Beltran would give fans the impression that they would give up on the season, but that's not how I would look at it. You add to the mix of Mulvey, Gomez, Martinez, Niese, Guerra, Pelfrey, Humber by adding more not less. That puts you in a position of strength. For once teams will be chasing us and not us chasing other teams. I mean my Gosh...6 players for a guy who plays every 5 days....imagine what would Beltran get back being an everyday player? He should bring back plenty. I think most fans would not shed a tear if Beltran left. Reyes and Wright would be a much bigger deal and that would create chaos.

Although I don't agree with many posters who say Beltran is a choker, etc., I wouldn't mind seeing what he can bring back in other teams prospects either. Wright and Reyes should remain untouchable in my opinion. And if the "can't miss" kids who the Mets drafted don't pan out, then maybe the scouting department needs a little bit of an overhaul.

Oakland receives six prospects for Dan Haren; Florida gets five players for Cabrera and Willis. Hmm, it certainly appears to be a seller’s market this year. I don’t think we fans should pillory Omar for refusing to gut the Mets’ farm system in search of a quick-fix SP. Time will tell whether the Arizona and Detroit organizations gave up too much in these deals. If there is anything to be angry about, it’s that the Mets simply don’t have five or six quality farmhands they can sacrifice at this time. Perhaps in a few years the Amazin’s will have a plethora of farm talent that will enable them to make a 6-for-1 or a 5-for-2 deal. Until that time, they’re better off stockpiling youngsters like F. Martínez, Gómez, Humber, Mulvey, et al. and waiting for them to develop.
In short, I’m not thrilled with what Omar has wrought so far, but I understand and applaud his refusal to make a bad deal just for the sake of making a deal.

Reality, while I agree that 6 minor leaguers are too many, the D-Backs are stacked with topprospects. Their major roster was filled with minor leaguers that made it to the bigs (Young, Webb, Drew, Valverde, Tracy, Snyder, etc). In fact, Arizona had three or four "untouchable" prospects & they were still able to package enough for the trade for Haren. Regarding Valverde, he was traded to replenish some of the Arizona farm teams. As an AZ native, I saw almost every D-Back game last season. Valverde led the league in 1,2,3 innings & he was lights out in most games. Opponents hit under .200 against him. Plus, he had several two-inning saves among his total of 47. Wagner cannot pitch more than 1 inning & Valverde would have been a nice scurity blanket. Contrary to popular belief, he isn't a hothead. I don't like his gyrations after each save, but Reyes is much more demonstative. My point was that Omar could have definitely pput together a pckage comparable to the Astro's offer. Lyle, a true defensive standout for the Broncos, was the first Yankton College (South Dakota) player ever drafted by the NFL and was a two-time all conference pick. From those humble beginnings, his combination of quickness and strength, provided Lyle with the pass-rushing skills to start with the Broncos in 1971. His 4.75 40-yard dash time, coupled with his tremendous strength - Lyle once had 27 wins as an amateur boxer - ranked Lyle as one of pro football's top pass rushers. His status as a premier defensive lineman was also enhanced by his versatility - he played both end and tackle in the front four with All-pro status. Lyle Alzado was 42 when he died of brain cancer. An American football SuperBowl hero with the Los Angeles Raiders in the 1984, Alzado owned a restaurant in West Hollywood and had embarked on a career as a movie actor when he died in 1992 after going public. "I started taking anabolic steroids in 1969 and never stopped," he admitted during his pain-racked final days. "It was addicting, mentally addicting. Now I'm sick, and I'm scared. Ninety per cent of the athletes I know are on the stuff. We're not born to be 300lbs or jump 30ft. But all the time I was taking steroids, I knew they were making me play better. I became very violent on the field and off it. I did things only crazy people do. Once a guy sideswiped my car and I beat the hell out of him. Now look at me. My hair's gone, I wobble when I walk and have to hold on to someone for support, and I have trouble remembering things. My last wish? That no one else ever dies this way." Riverview Cemetery, Portland, Oregon, USA. Cause of Death: Brain cancer brought on by excessive steroid use. He died at 43 years old. I ran into Alzado on the street in NYC during the late '80's. A really nice guy. He posed for a picture with me & my wife. It was a shame he went the way he did.

In 2004, after being the ONLY team to blow a 3-0 playoff lead in MLB history, the Yankees raised their ticket prices for the next season. The Yankees have since raised ticket prices twice again. Even after the Met price increase yeaterday, a ticket to a Yankee game will still be $50 more than the highest-priced Met ticket. Curley LoDucca wrote: Hooray! Hooray! MELT fans! One good thig about the mets is they don't need steroids to vreak their new MLB record choke. They probably weren't on steroids when they set the worst season record in MLB history. Be happy met fans. Those records will last forever.

I agree with "displaced Mets fan" when he said.. "We are missing one more piece if this puzzle....Bartolo Colon....then we can make arrangements for post season.". Also, Estrada would be a nice addition to the lineup.. Just my 3 cents..

Then again the MELT organization is always pulling stunts to make it look like we actually resemble a Major League club. Remember when we copied the Local Little League with those "Rally Caps!"
