I know it is bad that the boy was burned and how the parents must feel. But shouldn't the parents of this child be arrested and charged with Injury to a Child. There has been a burn ban in Young county for the past 4 or 5 months and everyone knows that. The parents should not have been using gas to start the fire to burn trash or leave the gas can that close to the fire.

I have so much sympathy for the little boy Clay and do feel sorry for the parents that their child was burned and is in the hospital. But that doesn't lessen the case against the parents. It was their fault that he was burned. The father started the fire during a county burn ban that had been in effect for several months. Then leaves the children at home and the mom inside failing to supervise the children while the fire is burning. Why are our county officials afraid to do their duty by filing charges against the parents for injury of a child. This is almost like leaving a child in a car on a very hot day and the child being hurt. We feel sorry for them but that doesn't lessen their culpubility for causing the injury to the child. So, county officials do your duty and file the charges and make the arrest because if nothing is done, this kind of thing will happen again.

bobby w, You are an inconsiderate jackass with no heart. Why can't this situation simply be an unfortunate accident and leave it at that. Why must you insist that this family endure more pain. Perhaps you should do as many of us have done, hug your children and be thankful that this is not happening to someone you love dearly.

bobby w, You obviously don't know this family very well. I noticed on another blog, you didn't want people questioning the actions of someone that they didn't know well, but you do. WELL, in the same way....I don't want you questioning the actions of these parents that you don't know well and I DO know VERY WELL!The accident itself will help prevent other similar accidents from happening, not the arrest of innocent people. Look in and around your own house....is there ANYTHING that could potentially harm someone? Do you keep all doors, cabinets, drawers, etc. locked at all times? We all have matches, cleaning agents, alcohol, and yes, even gas cans, that are not locked up at all times. Should we all go to jail? I personally think jail is for those purposefully trying to hurt our children...the drug dealers, drug manufacturers, and sex offenders. So, how about you use your energy to get the county to be more tough on these type of offenders and lay off the innocent parents.

I do not have to know the family very well to know when the law has been broken. It usually starts with a small infraction of the law and being stupid is not a defense. When a burn ban is in effect, you don't start a fire to burn trash a put the rest of the county in harms way of the fire getting away to start a wild fire. He left the fire unattended while he went to town for something. The fire could have gotten away from the burn barrel and burned off half of the country as well as peoples homes. Even though he did not intend for his child to be burned he is still responsible for the unintended result and is criminally liable for his actions. If you break the law and someone gets hurt you still get charged with a crime even though you did not intend for that person to get hurt. If parnets are too stupid to protect their child the govt. has to.

Yeah, I can see how you lousy liberal bleeding hearts can say this but if you let one get away with this someone will do the same thing just like people leaving their babies in their car and cooking them. And say "oh I forgot the baby was in the car with me". You cannot do injuries to children and get away with it. I bet if the guy in Olney had not had such a high social status in the community, he had been of a lower class he would be be hung on a cross and people would be out with pitchforks to get the guy. And as usual you libs can only call people names like "inconsiderate jackass with no heart" when you don't have a good argument for something.

After reading these posts, my wife and I discussed the points of the posts and talked to friends in other areas. The point is that the father left the young children unsupervised with a fire burning during a county burn ban. It is bad for the family and we feel for them, but by breaking the law and causing injury to a child. We are all for charges being filed against the father for injury to a child.

Bobby w, you obviously do not know the facts about the fire. It was a small fire to burn some bills. The dad stayed with the fire and it had burned down and almost out before he left. The boys were even inside when the fire was burned and when he left. The boys came out and went and found the gas can in a shed. It was not left by the fire! As for the point you are hung up on, yes a fire is a fire. But speeding is speeding, we get warnings instead. You need to understand that each case is different and some should be pursued and some are not. The authorities have looked at this case and they need to move on. There is nothing they can do to this family that will keep another child from getting hurt in an accident in the future. You, me and all others need to look to ourselves and ask is there something we need to do to make sure this does not happen to us. We cannot expect the laws to do it for us. I hope you will move on and try to use your energy on something better.

KRH it looks to me like you are in Harrisburg,Or. and I live in the town where it happened. What makes you think that you know more about it than me or are you really here. You say speeding is speeding, it is unless someone is injured then it makes it more serious and you do not just get a warning you go to jail. In this town it is not what you do but who you are as to how serious it is . One guy I know here was driving drunk, went into the chicken place and stole a bunch of chicken, that's robbery because the chicken had value and he had no right to take it. The police just took the chicken back and took him home, because he had money and was a so called upright citizen he no charges were filed. He is a drunk that beats his wife. So it is who you are and not what you do.

Way to go KRH for setting the facts straight! You are correct that the fire had burned down to almost nothing when the dad left and the boys were INSIDE the house, and the gas can was INSIDE a SHED, not by the barrel. There was NO reason for the dad to think there was any potential danger. This was an ACCIDENT, in which there should be no blame. This is not a case about "who" someone is or isn't. Can we get back to focusing our attention on the real criminals in this community and trying to make it the best it can be?

I am from Olney and have been all my life. That was an error on my part to correct my location. Sorry Bobby w: I do know more about this case than you and I know the guy you are talking about at the chicken place also and that is another issue. If you are mad because someone got off for a crime they committed ok it bothers me also when that happens. But your concern about Clay's family is misplaced. The drunk driver knew when got behind the wheel he could have killed someone and should have been subject to the laws he broke. Clay's dad started a small fire and was on top of it until it went down and no one was around when he left. He did the responsible think and no law is going to change the outcome of an accident. A drunk driver is no accident. If you know the facts about the drunk driver then go to another topix and complain about it. Now that you know the facts about Clay let the family help him without making it worse by posting commits before you know the facts.

The child wouldn't have been hurt if they wern't outside with a small fire. A fire is a fire, and the child got hurt. Just because of someones breaking of the law ended with someone they loved being hurt doesn't mean they should be subjected to the law. If someone were to murder a person and ended up killing someone they loved, they would still be punished. The family has been threw a lot, but havnt we all.

Anonymous- If a person murders someone they love then it is not an accident! Doing a dilberate act that will cause harm should be punished. This was neither. My point is in this case charging the parents will not serve any purpose except to make it worse. Unless you are in the family you have no idea what they are going through but I am sure it is more than you.

So does that mean that the mother let the kids go outside unsupervised with a smoldering fire in the yard. So are you saying that the mother should be charged with the crime. As far as who I am, I don't see anyone elses name on here to tell who they are. To the ones that have threatened me on this forum, if you do identify yourself if you have the guts, you will be charged with terroristic threat. And on that point you say me and others in Olney could give me a whoopin, like you say it would take you and others to give me a whoopin because people like you cannot act alone on something like this because by hiding your name shows that you are a coward and cannot do something alone you have to have a group to bolster your courage.

You know it doesn't matter if I have children. Stupid is as stupid does. Being stupid is no defense for causing an injury to a child. I am surprised at the comments of all the people on this forum. Don't you care about the child and are you all protecting people who hurt children by doing stupid things. I for one am tired of people hurting their children by breaking a law and their children being hurt. Don't you people care when someone does a small crime and it causing a big hurt to a child. This has to be stopped and all you on this forum seem to be alright with these people hurting their children while committing a crime. You say I don't know the family, well I know a lot of families that have hurt their children and you cannot let that get in the way with doing what is right for society and the children.
