I disagree that a "35 year-old white woman living in suburbia" cannot or should not be expected to do anything. You are a part of the community that this is occuring in. Continue to teach and care for your own children, but get to know others too. Volunteer at their school, attend the local high school sporting events. See and be seen. Please don't write off Tyrone and the others as not your problem, because our children go to school with them everyday. If my children ever bought drugs from a guy like this, the situation would be handled accordingly. In addition, if my children went to school with a thug who brought onto the school premises (as has been mentioned in this thread), they would be removed from school immediately and either homeschooled or enrolled in a safer alternative. I certainly wouldn't be spending my time on a message board proclaiming that everyone should be a "solution" to our private family matter. I do volunteer at my children's school, but HG appears to be asking for a whole lot more than that.

The true cause of violence is not access to guns..or rocks, or knives - the true cause of violence is being raised in a family - to start- which does not teach that violence is not the answer - and secondly in a community which does not condemn violence as the answer to problems. Guns are inatimate objects. Violence is shown with fists, feet, any available object etc. Unfortunately guns are one of those objects. Do you know how many parents KNOW their child has access to guns an does NOTHING? They are often the ones who use those guns to kill. HG you live in a fantasy world - your fantasy, HG Robinson wrote: People, people, people... These are teenagers that were involved in this situation. Studies have shown the frontal lobe of a teenager's brain is not well-developed and they can not behave like adults. Please don't compare a teenager's behavior to one of an adult. We need to place some focus on the true cause of violence: where the teenager shooter obtain his gun. Easy access to handguns and assult weapons are the root cause of violence!

You are absolutely full of it, MLK would never condone violence nor blame GUNS for the problem. The problem goes back to those using the guns. He was a rational man. What happened to you? HG Robinson wrote: <quoted text> Just more of the same old racist attitude... First - I do not have a "posse". Because of easy access to firearms, violence has spread into Isle of White County, VA. Nothing to do with me, all to do with guns in the hands of children. Second - This has nothing to do with MLK. For the record, the Black community does embrance MLK. Too bad you know nothing about him; he would probably tell you to stop being part of the problem and start being part of the solution.

Ok HG, start teaching YOUR people, since you distance yourself from those who are not of your race, what respect really is - THEN the shooting will decrease. HG Robinson wrote: <quoted text> So "the truth" I guess your sttitude is simply don't blame me, I'm white huh? No one said you personally are to blame. But society is. We have made it very easy for anyone - even kids - to obtain handguns and ammo. We have turned our backs on an entire generation of children, we are standing by saying "don't blame me" as more and more kids die each night. We can stop this senseless violence if more people would start action to control guns, better educate our children, and become more involved in the local community.

Good kids might buy pot from Tyrone...good kids do NOT shoot others. There is one heck of a difference. It is a shame that the Black community, the very same Black community that is SOOOO vocal when they feel discriminated against, has had nothing to say about this. Why is that, Black leaders? Why?

And here is the problem with your post, carrying an ILLEGAL weapon that you KNOW will kill some one is not an "accident" or a "bad thing". You have become what's known as an "enabler". Our "society", as HG has put it, has eroded personal responsibility to the point that a person is no longer responsible for his/her actions, it's always "society’s" fault. I personally find that a load of garbage. Oh wait, you are in the NEA, no wonder, continue with the indoctrination...

Dear Fairness, You need to read more carefully. I am in no way defending what happened in the Sonic parking lot. As I stated in a previous post, Tyrone chose the path he took, and this was NOT a road he had to go down. I am just stating that my own children, and maybe yours, are affected daily in our schools and community by gun-toting small-time drug dealers. We all need to be concerned. An enabler... no. An educator... yes. And not a member of the NEA. Peace.

Someone who is someones son, brother, and ESPECIALLY daddy, should not put himself anywhere near the type of situation that has occured. So caled black "leaders" should be screaming to the heavens over this....instead they stay quiet again. Oh sure, if they think they can get some TV time over it they may speak out, but othersise..... If a white guy had shot poor Tyrone, Jesse, Al, and HG would be all over the tube screaming how horrible it was. Why don't they express such outrage when one black kills another? So is this what you would tell his 3 year old? or the newborn? or how bout the young woman at home throwing up and crying because she has lost him??? what about his mom and dad? do you show that much compassion to them???

I would tell his parents that sadly they are failures at parenting and his death is on them. They should have taught him right from wrong when they had a chance. Hopefully they can do better for his siblings before they get shot down in the street also.
