Oakwood ex-worker sentenced

A mentally delayed man was beaten with a broom also..It is being investigated too. More then a 100 residents have been moved into private homes.Oakwood wont be there long.To many incidents.What a shame that so many of the people there have been so badly abused from home and they are suppose to be in a better inviroment and actually they are in worse.This breaks my heart

oakwood got its 22 citation on tuesday and i believe that they are gonna find there folks other facilities and shut down fer good.

Lmao.... Now why would they shut down after all the years it has been there? The abuse has always been going on it has just recently been put in the public eye. it will be swept back under the rug and forgotten in a few months and things will return to normal.

U just said why.It has just recently been put in the public eye and higher ups brought in.Things cannot ever return to normal because it isnt normal to abuse anyone.

I live here in RUSSELL COUNTY and I also work at Oakwood. Im not saying its be best job considering the education that I have but for right now it pays the bills. Yes I do love the guys that I take care of even though i just recently just had a broken nose and two black eyes from one of them but things happen and life goes on. There have be issues brought up in the past of abuse but people also need to realize that the individuals that live there can get out of control and no one can do anything about it. We do not have restraints there nor can we really tell the individual NO. Which to me stupid but oh well. But we do have respect for those who we take care of or atleast I do.

of course you say that..u need the job.... but I know for a fact abuse goes on there.My friend worked there also and she saw it and reported it.U may kniow her her name is kay.Hopefully it will close soon.

well i'm sure some people indure their job ....i love mine an yes i do know that there is some abuse going on but it's not as bad as the media says it is an yes i know how bad the abuse is to the workers>>>been there been hurt took to the hospital but i still love working there, been the best job i ever had!!!

I'm sure that abuse goes on there... I'm sure of it, and personally if i saw it, i would report that individual in a heart beat and probably kick their ass after work. I love the individuls that are residents at Oakwood. There are individuals there who are violent towards themselves, towards staff, and toward the other individuals that live there. In a situation like this you are supposed to redirect the individual if you can, if not try and protect them and the other clients. I love my job... i love the individuals, i have developed some very meaningful realtionships with them.

As for people believing that the facility will close, i don't believe that will happen. since Bluegrass took over there have been numerous changes and the individuals are taken care of. Of course there will be some idiot who believes they can get away with something and personally i hope they get caught if they hurt one patient!! Some of the clients at the facility have been there for 30 years or more... its their home... where would they be then if the place closed... Believe it or not but the news doesn't advertise those of us who love the patients and care for them.

I work there and people can set and talk about us but for 80%of the men and women who live there we are the only family they know.No one comes to visit or calls over half of them. It takes special people to work with them ,just like it takes special people to be good parents.Just because they are kids beat or hungry in Pulaski Co.would you want all other counties to say we beat and starve our kids here in Pulaski Co.Yes we may have had a few bad apples as with any job .But there lots more who care .you have to remember there are about 900 or more people it takes to care for these men and women who need special care.

I just moved to Pulaski Co. and I had intended on applying to Oadwood. This news troubles me. I have worked at other facilities similar to Oakwood maybe not as big but similar none the less. The media seems to always tell the worst but 22 serious citations and 4 arrests documented? That is big. I'm not trying to be judgemental but I would fear that I would lose my job do to closure. There are plenty of places for the state to relocated the clients. I have seen it happen elsewhere. If the allagations are valid, investagated and go unchanged then the state will do just that or the federal government will be on the state's back just review the Developmental Disability Act.

All I got to say is,,of the ones of yall who work at Oakwood or bluegrass or whatever,,whats up with my boy Travis. I know someone out there knows him..he works in the woodshop and plays with string all day. I love that boy but I havent worked there in about 7 months so Im just trying to see how things are going with him.

okay first of all i work at oakwood and no we do not use tazers...that is the stupidest thing i have heard. and for accusing people abuse the people whom live there you are very wrong...The people that live at oakwood are very well took care of, and obviously have more sense than some people on here. So instead of sitting back and talking and pointing fingers and thinking you know what is going on, then why dont some of you come and work there and find out for yourself, yes it is a very hard and stressful job and i guarantee that some of you all wouldnt last 2 days there working...so find something better to do with your time...

I know who your talking about. As far as i know he is doing fine but dont work with him.

I believe oakwood will close, and should be!!! when you talk about someone beings NUTS you should speak for yourself. I was able to find other employment after deciding to leave Oakwood, evidently you can't or you wouldn't still be there.
