The few areas of Winchester that are by the minimalist standards to be considered "OK', are for the first time I've ever seen, have "For Sale" signs out enmasse. Take the Country Club Road area, arguably the nicest neighborhood in Winchester, NEVER, have I seen so many for sale signs.

And the stone cold reality, is that No One wants to move to parts of Winchester Its painful to aknowledge, but true nonetheless. Are young professionals moving here to "raise a family", only if they have less than 4 brain cells. As it stands, real estate is an investment, and buying in Winchester offers zero as far as Rate of Return on Investment is concerned.

Lights out, The party's over I will move to Decherd.

wait is 10 years.'Tis in the here and now- the degeneration of Winchester Tn. Perhaps those with deep pockets, arrogance and egoism beyond any do-gooders realm carry the answers to the questions posed : How & Why? But they alone do not carry the burden. The citizens also share the accountability for it is they who made choices along the way whether out of ignorance or complacency - the results are the same.

The Winchester political machine earned its notorious reputation from 50+ years of sidewinding, nepotism, back Room negotiations (use your imagination) and the like.

You'd be hard pressed to find a well-educated, worldly, and intellegent individual with "Authentic Credentials" occupying the positions they were/are "appointed" to. Perhaps the term "appointed" should be changed to "annointed" as they surely had to prove their worth in some "special" way ;) And, continue earning their "annointedness."

As for us residents, understandably, most of the diehards have been in Winchester for generations. Surely, they must be agonizing over the demise of their beloved city and remember all too well when it was a bustling hub of production. Most of the youger generations have moved on and away especially if they were forunate enough to attend a college or university where they were exposed to "high order" thinking.

So ..... who really holds the answers? Does it matter at this juncture? The silent voices of those passed may or may not have spoken for change. If they did, their opinions and votes must not have carried enough clout Winchester tn would not be in the shambles it has come to be.

This degeneration did not occur over night. It was a process unraveling for decades. Is it possible now to stop the cascade? One can only
speculate as those in "Position" carry on in the name of Progress.

I like Winchester but it has the case of total destruction, mob crime, drugs, no jobs, bad government,Hot weather, shortage of toilet paper etc.

For me at least, I moved back with my family and bought a house because of work. Housing is cheap. So are taxes even with the water tax. Yes the city has changed over the past 40 years. corruption? yes. People moving? yes. People make change. I am not going to judge anyone on this blog as some have a genuine hatred for the city. That is your business. But people make changes by working at their communities. This is something people have lost over time.

In 10 years Winchester could well be the center of Franklin County Metropolitan Government. With the Decherd problems mounting and other towns beginning to show some problems, metro may well be the only recourse!!

Although I grew up in Decherd, Winchester was really my "stomping grounds" for years in the '80s as that's where most of my friends lived. Anyway, we were those kids who grew up in Winchester & then went away to university.....only to never come back to live. Not one of the friends I had back then lives in Winchester today....although some of their family is still there. Most have moved to
The north

It's really sad because there's no common-ground anymore. We all used to meet up at The Trap when we were back home visiting family at Thanksgiving or Christmas & it was great times. Now....no one ever seems to come back.

While I don't believe in desperate clinging to the past, it is sad that the good old days of the past are long-gone in Winchester.. to be continued.

It is a town you don't want to go out in without your street sense or allow your kids to run in areas you don't know or people you don't know..If you want to leave your doors open better look for a out Lieing community because if you have kids you don't want them in these public schools.

There is a lot wrong with the water
many of the municipalities locally have exceeded the federal drinking water standards for radon by a very wide margin
ie; Estill Springs well water is 19 picocurries
the standard is like 4
i wouldnt bother pay taxes unless you get a refund
its looking real good like we may never collect social security. Please clean up your act.

I heard Rumors over the years about the Mafia
being in Winchester. I think they were talking about the old men who sit allday long at the waffle house and drink coffee.

Man you hit the nail on the head. The problem is that no one here will listen. You would think that after 40 years of the wrong policies they would leard something from other places that are having success. I guess they will never learn because they are either way to closed minded of somehow there is money in it for them??

Parents should be taking responsibility of their children, NOT THE TELEVISION! It starts at home, parents have to teach children the right path. These kids don't have any means to go foward in life, they don't have any goals or aspirations so of course they are gonna just waste their lives away! I myself am only 18 years old and i watch all the movies, and listen to all the "gangsta rap" and wear the clothes and live in an drug infested neighborhood but I couldn't imagine not going to school, hanging out by Hammers. See i have morals and principals that my parent instilled in me at a young age. Yes I've made mistakes, we all aren't perfect but basically what im saying is that is starts at home. I didn't have a father in the house with me and maybe things would have been a little better for me if i did, but I feel like I know whats best for me because of what my mother taught me.
Plus most of these kids growing up now are crack babies, back in the 80's when crack was on the rise all these women were having babies too, where did those children go? They are right here killing off our population
I like Hammers

I agree. We are already over 17% here in Winchester according to the stats. I hear quoted here locally. The stats. also don't consider the self employed whose business has seen a big fall off, essentially reducing them to unemployed.

They also don't account for all of the people who have been forced into reduced hours at their conventional job. My wifes company has requested that people reduce to 4 days a week for many of their employees. For every 5 of those we have what amounts to an unemployed person We should of saw this coming and took action sooner. But no one cared.
