I do not know of the Washabaugh's you are referring to but George Washabaugh was indeed from Lexington. I believe that is where he caught his conviction from.[Lexington].

SHOPLIFTING ARRESTS LOOK LIKE RERUN TO POLICE Author: Eric Gregory, Herald-Leader staff writer
Jan. 20, 1993: Police arrest Tim and Nancy Washabaugh after a search of their house turns up 1,200 stolen videotapes and thousands of dollars of shoplifted merchandise.
Rewind.
March 27, 1987: Police arrest Tim and Nancy Washabaugh after a search of their house turns up 1,600 videotapes, several VCRs and other camera equipment.
Deja view?
"That's them," said Detective Gary Pollmann of the Lexington police. "Again."
With the Washabaughs' arrest Wednesday, police said they captured the ringleaders of a shoplifting operation that has been working out of Lexington for at least a year.
Pollmann said Timothy Washabaugh had been stockpiling stolen merchandise since he was released from jail in October 1989 on shock probation.
He served 15 days of a four-year prison sentence on charges stemming from the March 1987 raid on his home at 3240 Carriage Lane. His wife received two years' probation.
Police said then that the Washabaughs were copying the tapes and reselling them at flea markets and convenience stores.
They were convicted on a charge of receiving stolen property that involved a video camera taken from a store on New Circle Road. But a jury found them not guilty on the videotape charges after police and prosecutors could not prove the cassettes were stolen.
Police learned their lesson, Pollmann said.
They now have witnesses and videotapes of their own that show the Washabaughs shoplifting items from stores across the Bluegrass, such as Rite- Aid, Target, Kmart, Sam's Place and even Joseph-Beth Booksellers, he said. Police expect to file additional charges against the family in those counties.
Investigators were tipped off by callers who told them how the Washabaughs operate, Pollmann said.
The couple and their adult sons would go into the stores wearing bulky coats. Underneath they wore two shirts -- one tight and one loose, like a baggy flannel shirt.
"All they had to do was pop a button on the loose shirt and fill it up," Pollmann said. "You have three people doing that, and you make enough trips, you can haul away a truckload."
Which is exactly what police had to use Wednesday to take all the merchandise back to the police station -- a tractor-trailer.
It was filled with videotapes, books, cameras, power tools and even soap that the Washabaughs had stored in a double garage at 3198 Greenbo Drive. They had been selling the goods at flea markets in Nashville and Louisville, Cox said.
Police spent most of yesterday tagging and taking inventory of the items. Officers seized $20,000 worth of videotapes, Pollmann said, and now they are starting on the books.
Meanwhile, Tim Washabaugh faces a new charge. WTVQ (Channel 36) cameraman John Stephens took out a warrant yesterday charging Washabaugh with fourth- degree assault.
After he was arrested, Washabaugh cursed at reporters as he was led to a police cruiser. Suddenly, he lunged at Stephens and knocked him into a police cruiser, bending the camera's antenna. Stephens was not injured.
The Washabaughs and their sons appeared in Fayette District Court yesterday morning. All pleaded not guilty to four felony charges each of receiving stolen property.
Tim Washabaugh, 46, and his wife Nancy, 45, both got out of jail yesterday on bond. Tim Washabaugh was bailed out on a $20,000 full-cash bond, and his wife paid $1,000.
Their sons remained in jail last night. Both Gary Lee Perdue, 24, and Steven B. Perdue, 22, are being held on $20,000 full-cash bonds each.

TWO ARRESTED; THEFT RING LINK SUSPECTED Author: CARMEN CARTER AND GEORGE LECKY, POST STAFF REPORTERS
A Lexington, Ky., man and a 17-year-old juvenile apprehended for shoplifting in Harrison are believed to be members of lucrative, multistate theft ring, authorities said Tuesday.
Gary A. Washabaugh, 45, and the juvenile were arrested Sunday following a struggle with employees at K mart, 10560 Harrison Ave. Washabaugh is charged with robbery and abduction and is free on bond. The youth is charged as a juvenile with robbery and is being held in the Juvenile Detention Center.
The 240-pound Washabaugh, who began struggling with security officer Karen Smart at the store, was apprehended with the help of off-duty Sgt. Frank Webb of the Hamilton County Sheriff's Department.
Washabaugh, when confronted by Ms. Smart, allegedly "grabbed her, forced her in a back portion of the store (where he began beating her)," said Harrison Detective Sgt. Ed Bettinger.
Ms. Smart, who suffered bruises during the struggle, was not seriously injured.
Police recovered 33 packs of Polaroid film Washabaugh and the juvenile allegedly took.
Washabaugh and the juvenile are members of a Lexington, Ky.,-based group that have been involved in similar shoplifting crime sprees in at least four states: Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Missouri, Bettinger and Lexington Police Sgt. Mike Roe said Tuesday.
Washabaugh's two brothers, George and Timmy, are currently in prison on theft-related charges stemming from shoplifting, Roe said. George Washabaugh also has a conviction for murder, Roe said.
Another relative was sent to prison after being convicted of burglary and receiving stolen property, Roe said.
Other members of the group are currently being investigated for thefts or robberies in Missouri, Bettinger said.
Items stolen from stores include film, video tapes, video equipment and small radios. The stolen merchandise is often brought back to the Lexington area and sold at flea markets.
Shoplifting sprees have allegedly grossed the group up to $10,000 for a weekend, Roe said. Bettinger said the group targets K mart and Wal-Mart stores in rural areas near interstates.
