NJ Family Settles For $13,000 After 5-Year-Old Left At Wrong Bu...

I hope the award is put into an educational trust fund.

The money will more likely go to gas and therapy since the child is too scared to ride the bus.

In our District, a 5yr old is in kindergarten, and the drivers ONLY let the child off the bus IF a parent is present. If no parent then the child is taken SAFELY back to school. My children wore little cards on a yarn necklace with their name, bus color and stop for the first few weeks. What a great safety measure!

I hope that NJ District changes it's policy.

I don't understand why the bus driver didn't call the police when the problem arose? Is that bus driver still driving school buses?

A Flat TV, Beer, Liposuccion and new chest para la madre, and a trip to Las Vegas for the parents.

Bus drivers should carry a cell phone/log of the children they transport with an emergency #.. in the event that this happens or any other circumstance they would be able to contact the person on file..

That is a terrible thing. I don't know what I would do if that happened to my daughter at that age. I can't imagine what the parents went through during the time the child was lost. I can understand the impact it could have on a five year old and hope that it never happens again.

An unfortunate wrinkle? Please how could they under play what a tragedy this could have been. The child wandered around for an hour!!! He could have been abducted and killed. Thank god he was found and is now safe. The bus driver should be fired and 13,000 is not enough!

Jamar's family is not very savy but must be desperate for any $$ amount. They should have hired an attorney (since this made headlines) $25,000 is a Policy limit they should have received at the least.

FYI - Luckily, the Insurance Carrier for the Bus Co. shelled out the Settlement. The Bus Co's Insurance is definately inadequate in its Limits. Hence, the small amount.

$13,000 is like a drop in the bucket, not enough, the bus company should have been sued for much, much more.

Shame on those that say the family will blow the money. Most likely it will be put in trust account. More importantly...it is no where near enough... this child's safety is only worth $13,000 ~ I don't think so. The other poster is correct about 5 year olds being dropped off only if an adult is there to greet the child. Driver hopefully was fired ~ if Jamar said that wasn't his stop... call transportation but don't force a child to get off the bus. The district and bus company are very fortunate that nothing seriously happened to this little boy.

Everybody is looking for someone to do them wrong just so they get a nice payout. The person reponsible should lose their job sure, but WE the tax payers ultimately suffer for every lawsuit (higher costs, etc). Why don't these lowlifes earn their money by working hard like everybody else, instead of cashing in on a lawsuit--that only pads the pockets of greedy lawyers. Also, just a side note, don't immediate families share the same last name anymore -- the kid's name is Jamar Johnson Jr., and his mom's name is Adriane Allen???? Judging by the kid's name I'm sure the mom will blow the money real quick. Ya'know what I'm sayin'....

Just goes to show, if your just ordinary working people, in which this great country was built on, you don't even count as important any more. We are talking about a child that by the way was probably frantic about what was happening, didn't have a clue when he was, and showed that to the bus driver, who evidently didn't care, left the child there any way, and why? was he getting ready to go on break or somethng. With all that is going on with children being abducted and all that more consideration should have been thought about any way. I think that this was a horrible situation and the family should have recieved more, not just financial either. Do something for the child to show your really sorry.

how do they calculate 13k? is there some kind of chart?

1. Catching child's jacket in door= 75k
2. Hitting kids when exiting bus=250k
3. Missing stop=750
4. Shoving child off bus to get to bar ontime=13k.

hhmmmmm.

ridiculous! waste of taxpayer time and money. im sure the little boy will get to spend the money....LMAO!!!!
