Is stead of giving out traffic ticket the police should be concerned about the people.

First of all, whether police give out tickets or not has no direct effect on whether or not there will be a shooting. If police presence is an issue, then people need to demand and support a bigger police force in the city in Los Angeles. With the budget cuts and state defecit, we need to decide on ways to hire more police officers to protect and serve their community. People do not like to hear it, but raising some type of taxes would help the situation.

Old rhetoric. Hiring more LAPD officers would do little in the way of keeping down crime in Wilmington. LAPD cops are mostly spoiled and lazy. Many things are seriously amiss in their training and indoctrination. Their self propaganda is that they are an Elite police dept, and in their Hubris they have morphed into a mediocre police dept. Most of their cops are lazy, doing the minimum and it is an organization focused on in house political correctness and self aggrandizement. They are quite fond of bad mouthing other police depts, from small to large ones, including the Sheriff's Dept. As to the Sheriff's Dept in Compton/Lynwood, an area about the size of the Harbor and historicaly dangerous territory, the Sheriff has seriously reduced crime in world famous violent Compton and held it all down. The thugs are scared of them. Not the case in Wilmington with LAPD. Even Long Beach PD in their bad ass hoods are out hustling LAPD and LBPD is understaffed. LAPD loves to peacock and posture, but very little substance to them in the last two decades.

"A man suspected of shooting at Los Angeles detectives earlier this week could be holed up in a Wilmington home that was surrounded by police late Thursday night, law enforcement authorities told The Times.
Officers saturated the area after a report of shots fired. A suspect was barricaded inside, law enforcement authorities said.
A convoy of Los Angeles Police Department squad cars and trucks were responding late Thursday to the scene by South Avalon and East Lomita boulevards, the Los Angeles Police Department said.
The incident was the latest in a spate of shootings in the LAPD's Harbor Division in recent days.
The violence included three people who were slain in two shootings in Wilmington and the attempted murder suspect who fired at detectives on Tuesday.
That suspect was believed to be inside the home late Thursday. No other details were immediately available."

Suspect got away. Code four. Up to the Police Academy for their friday Clam Chowder and bask in self glory, where they first learned their elitist chants...LOL...remember they are the best, they will tell you that .. all other cops envy them, they will tell you that. These LAPD Chief's think they are celebrities. LAPD's hubris has reduced them to an impotent dept. All of their failure to perform, has very little to due with budget constraints, so do not buy their lame excuses.

Shame the City cannot bring in the Sheriff or throw some big money to neigboring Torrance PD to help them out. Even other well regarded Cities, do not want to hire their Capt's, to fill their Chief of Police vacancies (Pasadena, Santa Monica, as recent examples).

Guess what? The PEOPLE of Los Angeles say who does what in this creepy city. We are tax payers we can pick and chose who we want working for us, all it takes is to put it on a ballot and put it to a vote. We want the best contract for our citizens period. I Jan Perry can go outside of Los Angeles to buy gourmet sandwhiches and food for the Michael Jackson funeral for its security and all the hoopla we should be able to recruit outside help, even give them a contract for their services. Antonio V. think that they are the only game in town. Say adios to the L.A.P.D./L.A.F.D./Sanitation/P arking Enforcement and all the other waste we pay for. We want the best and most for our dollars, why don't the citizens see that. I can go on and on ..

If these cops were standing around NOT doing nothing, they must have been doing something ... what was it they were doing?

Did you mean a butt full of cops standing around doing nothing? now that I would believe.

How do you come to this conclusion? If there was a police car on every block in Wilmington, you know that crime would go down. If there were cops every where you know that YOU would fell safe enough to walk down the streets of Wilmington at any hour during the night. Let's remove all of the cops from Wilmington and surrounding areas for one night and then tell me how safe you would feel to walk on "L" street all by yourself. I am sorry, but your statement is illogical.

I did not say that they should just hire cops. Of course, if they hire cops and have them work in areas with little crime, that would not alleviate the problems that Wilmington is now facing. Put a massive force of cops on the streets of Wilmington and anyone would feel safe to be out at night in Wilmington. We need to first stop things from getting even more out of control and then focus on programs that would help the newer generations from not choosing a lifestyle that is immoral to everyone's standards. I do know that the three times my family has had to call the cops, they arrived very quickly and did an awesome job! Just because there might be a few bad apples in the mix, does NOT mean that every cop is lazy and bad. You know there are sops that do an awesome job! We should focus on solutions and not just complain all the time. If we are NOT part of the solution, then we are just part of the problem ourselves!

Daily Horoscope for May 23

Aquarius

If you're a typical Aquarian you're often quite idealistic and today is no exception. You're wandering around on cloud nine, especially if you're thinking about a very special someone, and indulging in all sorts of deliciously romantic daydreams. Reality? You've no time for it right now, because it will intrude too much on your fantasies.
