So, what about the huge haul of pot plants, etc. that the Sheriff got at his house? What ever happened to that arrest? Did all of those charges disappear because he is an ex-cop?

I heard from a great source that the deputies grossly exagerrated what he had. I heard it was a small personal deal and he had a card.

As to your other comment, and having some experience with back injuries and work related disabilities, riding a HD hardly constitutes fraud. Is there some point at which you will back your ridiculous claims or are you just chirping away, hoping someone will pay attention to your glib commentary? Each time you post you reveal your ignorance, the depth of which is mind boggling.

But back to the matter at hand. I have to admit, much to my eternal dismay, that I know Mr. Orenstein. Can't say I care for him, but I do know him. The man has an enormous ego. For him to write and publish a retraction actually means that he screwed the pooch and made a giant mistake on this one. I hope he actually feels remorseful for dragging this guy through the mud, but I know him better than that. Shame on you Ron, you giant gasbag.

The irony here is Mr.O said what most Willits residents had suspected if not confirmed with their own reasoning. The other irony is Mr. O didn't realize what he was saying, he's not that smart..... his comments could have been construed as targeting a litany of construction projects going on at the time, but the JD RedHouse owner wanted the press, by his outrage, arrogance and stupidity he took on the ownership of Mr. O's politically embarrassing commentary. By testing his outrage with any local that would listen he stirred controversy for months, while City leaders and officials ran for cover after shamelessly touting him as the savior of "downtown" before "the dope bust", then when the story died and local attention was turned to the latest murder or blunder by the City Council, he felt a need to threaten the principals into drudging the whole trashy mess up again. That's the part that makes no sense......most locals had moved on and now they remember all over again. This matched set of ego driven morons deserve each other......

So now a business owner, in order to be considered "legitimate" has to open their accounts and paperwork and books to prove they didn't fund their business with pot money?

How ridiculous the citizens of willits have become! And how rude!

hey ron.......did you take this as a lesson to stay out of other peoples buisness? the fact that jon had to call you up, share his personal information with you and the better half of the town makes me sick. ever heard of slander, profiling, or even the constitution? here is an idea.....since you have proven yourself to be such a great investigator, why not look into the local police around town and their involment with the pot scene?

ps. we are so thrilled to hear that you approve what jon did with that dump!

pss. i dont know a single person that is dropping 50 bucks on gas to drive down the hill to spend their money in a town that is funded by the same exact thing. keep up the great work.

Fearless... I generally respect your opinions and positions on these topics. However, you gotcher facts wrong on this one.

So here's how it went down... Ron writes that Jon called him concerned about the article in question. What Ron didn't write is that the telephone conversation was recorded. That recording, which I personally listened to, has Ron stating... and I quote, "So I guess you figured out I was talking about you in my column".

Later, when confronted, Ron denied that he was referring to JD Redhouse. The tape was produced... Ron wrote the retraction... Ron lost his job at TWN, end of story.

You may be correct about the ego's involved here, but the simple fact of the matter is that Ron took some enormous assumptions about the Redhouse. You correctly stated that alot of folks did. Ron's mistake was in actually putting it in writing without first checking his facts.

I would say that all things considered, Mr. O got off pretty lighly considering the shellacking he would have taken in a libel suit.

California law along with many other states requires consent of all parties for telephone recordings, also there are criminal penalties for unauthorized recording of conversations and the statute allows victims to sue in civil court for damages; the obvious exceptions being the federal government / law enforcement, who do what they want regardless of the law.....
So according to California law Redhouse broke the it by recording Mr. O without his consent, then Redhouse used the illegal recording to extort a retraction out of Mr. O, and I've heard this guy used to be a cop.....but Mr. O was right there to buy into the whole trashy mess by admitting, "So I guess you figured out I was talking about you in my column",stupid, stupid, stupid...... as said before, "This matched set of ego driven morons deserve each other......"

... follow the money. IRS will, this is not over yet.

And here I thought the issue at hand was whether or not Mr. O was referring to the Redhouse in his article. Clearly he was. He clearly libeled them in his article. He clearly lied about having done so.

You might be right on the telephone recording thing, Fearless, you might just be right. But I gotta say, if'n it was me, I might just do the same thing.

As to the extortion comment, you know as well as I do that this isn't extortion. There was no exchange of real property. Nobody realized any material benefit. Mr. O was "induced" to tell the truth, that's all.

Showing where one might have made a bit of legitimate income does not exonerate that possibility that illegal maney has entered into the scene. And why should anyone even believe O's "correction" considering the source and O's quest for redemption??
And who are the other principals (investors??) in the merchantile operation? Something stinks!

According to the article by Mr. O, the documents he saw demonstrated monies sufficient to purchase, remodel, and stock the building. As I understand it, no investors are involved.

So a writer for the Willits News named Ron Orenstein is allowed to write an article discouraging people of Willits to shop local because of his fears and assumptions? Sounds like one of the developement guys. Anyone who hates pot as much as him should move. He's poison to our community. The Willits news needs to stop destroying Willits and blaming everthing on Pot. And by his article I can see mr.O is the guy making these aweful posts. People can't possibly get along and com e together in the community with hateful articles like this constantly coming out. What a biggit!

Yeah your nasty comments about other peoples lives stink! Move fool, cause weed's not going anywhere. Quit hating the other half the community. Do you hate black people too? What about oil companies who rob people and get tax breaks? You cool with that level of dishonesty? January is it, Bush's last reign of terror.
