I almost forgot about the whole "occupy" movement since it was kinda derailed by that incident a little while back. It's a nice thought that there'd be less separation between the classes. And it would be nice if richer people didn't get so many more tax cuts...

If only it were that simple. Unfortunately those with the money for it REALLY know how to work the system, and it's not like they did anything wrong... They accumulate incomes from things that don't get taxed as much as just the weekly income, like investments, and such. I'm no expert, but my dad studies finances and works in investment, so he's been learning some of the tricks of the trade. He says, that the rich 1% finds ways to make their money work for them, and the money stays just enough out of reach that some of it hardly gets taxed if at all. I don't really get it. I may be a math and numbers geek but this will never quite add up to me.

Still what do you guys think of the movement? It still seems somewhat misguided and fruitless to me, but it's definitely a nice goal that they're working for.

Occupy Wall St. is nothing more than a closet Socialist/communist movement.

It's a shame occupy doesn't want or have leaders. They could do a tea party type thing and get people in places of power so what is wanted has a chance of happening.

That would certainly have a bit more impact, but I somewhat doubt the success in that too.

Why not?the tea party is doing it. They just put dick lugar a 36 yr incumbent out of the senate. And won another primary last night. Occupy candidates could succeed if there were any.

oh wow they did? didn't expect that to happen any time soon. Well I guess if there are supporters out there for Vermin Supreme, then I shouldn't be very surprised by this.

I don't think they're trying to call for a new world order. And I doubt many of them want to see the fall of capitalism. I know a few supporters of the movement, and all those few want is equal tax rates amongst all of the classes and stuff like that. You know, an even playing field.

Then again I haven't paid close enough attention to the entirety of the movement, and there seem to be a lot of people wanting different things in it. They all seem to just have the same general idea, that the rich "1%" are just a bit too money-grubbing and the average every-day working and middle class joe gets screwed in the end. They don't all seem to know what they want specifically, they just know that they want that part to stop, and since we supposedly make up the other 99% of the country, we should be able to have bit more pull in government decisions concerning finances and taxes and the like, so that things can be a bit more fair and proportionate.

Again, I feel it's a pleasant thought, but the chances of it actually working out that way...WITHOUT a considerable amount of disarray... eh feels like there's more chance of me finding or inheriting some lost treasure of King Mansa Musa or something. lol

I am afraid you have been "Hoodwinked" by this movement. Watch the video again. Listen to him speak about class warfare and unfair treatment at the hands of the rich and powerful. Oh yes it all sounds good. But why do they have this big protest on May 1st and call it May day? Lets take a look at one countries last big official May Day parade shall we?

http://www.youtube.com/watch...

Still not convinced of the goal of much of this group? At 3:00 he calls for a general strike. Lets see who else called for everybody to strike on fhttp://www.marxists.org/histo ry/ussr/events/timeline/1917.h tmeb.10th a long time ago....
Did you notice that not once but twice he made reference of the Soviet Union or Stalinists? 2:38 and 4:14.
What better place to attack capitolism then the very heart."Wall Street"
It is a shame that many of these people just are not aware of the true goals of this movement.

We should have a may 1 celebration/parade every year. The day Osama bin laden left the planet.

I like how you cherry pick "general strikes" like it only happened in Russia. We've had some here too.

I don't think Osama plays into their ideals of May Day. I wouldn't be surprised if more than a few were saddened by his demise.
It was a general strike in Petrograd that sparked the Russian revolution.
Funny how you "cherry pick" general strike but dismiss his mention of "Stalinists" and "Russian winters".

Isn't May Day supposed to be a holiday in certain countries as a celebration of the start of summer and something to do with the Walpurgis Night?

May day is a big holiday for the socialist and communists. That is why we celebrate labor day...in Sept.

Are you talking about that "international worker's day" thing? What's wrong with taking a well deserved day off from work to appreciate and celebrate being workers? That IS why we have our Labor day here. All I'm getting from this is that the people of the movement feel that the worker is still under-appreciated in some ways in this country... which I REALLY can't argue with.

After all wasn't May Day part of the push for the 8-hour workday in the US, like around industrial times or sometime near that? It's not like May Day never had its significance here before.

And just what other aspects of socialist/communist culture or beliefs should we celebrate?
That is not a road I would choose to go down.
