What can you tell me about the AVALON?

I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts and hope to learn even more. It was before my day and I heard a family member was a lady there. Exactly what building is it? Location? When did it open-close? Was law enforcement not a problem back then? Any type of write up on its history?

Always wanted to do a parody of Elvis's song heart break hotel. Since my baby left me. I found a new place to dwell. Down on the end of logan street,the Alvon hotel... Your just a hooker baby. Thank you Thank you very much.

Just in case you didn't know this you can look it up. The Alvon was also a hospital & Dr. Salten was one of the doctors. The building was build in 1938.

Some people don't know its got a helicopter pad and it was used in the early morning hours. I can remember when it caught fire had sale on some scorched meat. Still good meat

i remember the street was sort of curved where the Alvon (Avalon) was located. local businesses used to give out ink pens for them as advertisement i guess. the ink pens work shaped with a curve in them and the ink pens read Alvon Club where happiness begins around the bend LOL

That version has been in my head for 40 years.Anyone remember Deep 3rd in the day.Now that area's got the stories to tell.Shame it's all gone now.

Wide open totally without a liense you could
get a prostitute, liquor or "soul" food..24 7 as they say today..I left there many time in the first hours of daylight..Also there was some hot piano playing sometimes and I would give a thousand dollars for just the records on that jukebox..I never saw a fight there and I never saw a cop there.Some nights there were cars parked on both sides of the street all the way down deep third...The richest of the rich and the poorest of the poor,both black and white dancing and singing all night long..It was so much better than today...

What a poetic sounding name out of the past! The Alvon was high class compared to Deep Third's reputation. An Uncle took me to some juke joint while I was in high school after a football game in Logan one fall. He had it in mind to make a man of me and told me things I had no idea humans would or could do. But I ended up getting a beer instead much to my relief. I guess I wasn't ready to become a man using the Deep Third method. Later on, he told me that he feared how my Mother and Dad would react if they found out.

reading ppl talkind about the Alvon puts a smile on my face my mother worked there many a years.She rasied her 3 kids working there and the police never had a problem with the females walking the streets it was all done be hind closed doors .

Yes the Holmes girls worked there they were both tricks and didn't care what they did for their money

I heard that they got caught selling meat with hair on it. I could'nt resist posting that I have heard it many times.

I do remember something like that but I can't recall the details.
I do know Fred did not die from the gunshot...Those steps looked a long way down,I think Freds was on the 3rd floor so there was alot of steps..
