From my understanding Dr. Abad was "overseeing" the JMC. Newspaper reports are that the feds sent 3 undercover agents to the clinic and that they saw the clinic for over 6 months, were written controlled narcotics and never ONCE saw the Dr.
I wasn't aware he had a local office, papers indicate he was only licensed in Ky and was using his Ky DEA#'s to write all those controlled narcotics.
I would suggest you start looking for a new doctor.
By the way, where was he located that you were going to?

I don't think you can stamp a name on a prescription and get it filled, especially for Controlled Narcotics.

It seems the office in Kermit had a sweetheart deal going with the pharmacy in Kermit that they phoned in the scripts. Perhaps they figured this would leave less of a paper trail.

According to the newspapers there were enormous amounts of controlled narcotics written by JMC and filled by the pharmacy in Kermit. The papers reports the amount of medications dispensed by this pharmacy was more than many of the largest city pharmacy in the US.

It's a shame for the people who really need medical care.

Well according to the latest Charleston Gazette this Dr. Augusto Abad did indeed rubber stamp prescriptions and allow office staff to dispense without him even showing up at the clinic.

I like Abad.. I've been goin' to him for over 10 years now; he is always nice and polite.
And I just don't see him writing anything for anyone that doesn't need it.

His NEWER nurses on the other hand.. I wouldn't give a pale of rocks for any of them.

I like Dr. Abad. I've been seeing for about 7 years. I went to him after the peditrian told me I was getting too old. hehe. I like him, but I don't go alot. I don't like to go to the doctor. :) He was always professional with me. Although, I don't take narcotics, so I don't know anything about that. It is hard to get an appointment though and it seems like it is so overcrowded.

I work in a pharmacy (won't say which one) and what we were told was that Abad had people rubber stamping his name on controlled substance perscriptions. That is against federal laws

wish the dopers would realize how they are making it for people that have real pain to get there medication. I was in a car wreck and almost died and upon being released from the hospital was given a rx for a pain killer. I was in therapy for almost a year and when needed I would ask for something for pain and was given an rx. I had MRI"S and cat scans and cirrulation was checked , I was in rehab and then one time I had been almost 60 days with only 30 pain pills ...only took them when I needed them and when I ask for a refill to have for when I actually had pain and they had me pee in a cup to make sure the drug was showing up ....so many people sell the drugs ...it just makes you sick

Dr. Abad is a wonderful Doctor, he saved one of my family's life, if it wasn't for Doctor Abad my family member wouldn't be here today and for that I thank him for. Also he did not push any controlled pain medication what so ever on my family member, he is a good Doctor and these people need to leave him a long, we only have a hand full of good Doctors here now,,,after they run them all away, what will we do than? And he always shows the up most respect to all his paitents

I just can't believe that Dr.Abad would be gulity of pushing drugs. His office at ARH would not call in a presription for pain medication. If you needed somthing, then you had to go to his office to pick-up the prescription. He was always very caring and understanding whenever I saw him and I will continue to go to him. I feel when the truth comes out Dr. Abad will be innocent. Keep him in your prayers.

It's in a federal court paper that he pushed dope at the JMC. He is NOT a good doctor to push dope onto people. Pain killers are an interim medication, they are/were not designed to be taken every day. Pain killers are prescribed in certain instances on a everday basis but they are usually a last resort.
From reading the court papers it indicated that JMC would order certain testing that would/could indicate a small reason for pain, then WHAM start prescribing Hydrocodone and Xanax.
These people needed to be sent out of that practice, into other therapy, etc. They deserved better than being hooked on meds. Of course, many of them were there to get meds for diversion and this set up worked great for them.
He should lose his license PERIOD.

according to the article, he was allowing the nurse practitioners to rubber stamp his name on prescriptions for controlled substances. NPs are only allowed to write a three day supply. A doctor has to see the patient, review the chart, and then sign - not stamp - his or her name to the prescription. According to the article, he was not there and VERY rarely saw patients. He reviewed charts at his home or while practicing at his ARH clinic. Then the office was billing Medicaid for dr visits when the patients were not being seen by an actual doctor.

I like Dr. Abad. I really do. He's a good doctor - but he got mixed up in all this and it's going to come back on him. Medicaid fraud is a serious thing, and so is handing out pain meds like candy. While the NPs did the actual medicating, he knowingly allowed his name to be put on there - it would have proof of that in the chart. If he reviewed the charts, he would have to know that they were stamping his name, know what they were prescribing, and he would have to be okay with that. If that is the case, then it doesn't look good for him. If they can prove that he was not at the JMC on days that Medicaid was billed for doctor's services, then the office committed Medicaid fraud - and since he oversees the clinic...well you see where I'm going.

It's unfortunate for this area because he really is a good doc, and a good person. This is a very serious thing going on....I wish him the best, but I personally don't really see a light at the end of the tunnel for him here.

I thought it said that the NPs were the ones rubber stamping his name. He had to approve of it, yes, but the NPs were the actual pushers. He was an enabler if your statement is correct. Perhaps I read the report wrong. Would you send a link to the report please? I would like to look over it again.

I know excalty what you mean! I was in an automobile accident also, and had the most difficult time getting a doctor. I believe it was because I was in pain. I ended up having to travel (in pain) to a doctor almost 4 hours away from Pike and Mingo county to get adequate treatment. It was my impression that the doctors were afarid, so I don't know how these people who sell or abuse pain medications are getting all those prescriptions.

Daily Horoscope for May 25

Taurus

Try hard not to let money or possessions come between you and a friend today, unless it's over something that has got to be sorted out before it goes any further. For instance, if someone owes you money and has consistently failed to pay it back, this is a good day for mentioning it to them and finding out what's going on. If necessary, you may have to be quite vehement.
