If joe blow wants to start a car dealership, he builds and PAYS for it out of his own pocket, If a company wants to build SPACE PORT they should do the same as joe blow.I for one am tired of paying for others to profit.

some people realize that the Space Port is a chance for the future of this state and perhaps even the planet.

NOW IS THE TIME AND THIS IS THE PLACE! We have an opportunity to change the world and make a brighter future for ourselves and our children and future generations. There is more at stake here than anyone realizes. Take a chance the future is waiting.

Nobody in thier right mind would commute from Alamogordo all the way around 4 counties to work at the spaceport, I believe it's about 117 miles.
They will NEVER build a highway across WSMR.

Will this come up in Otero county? I would definitely support this as with what little I know about the Space port project, I believe it would benefit us in Otero county as well.

So many people don't realize that the Spaceport presents so many more employment opportunities than the space tourism business. There will be commercial launches, as well. Small businesses in Otero County will have the opportunity to bid on contracts. It won't just be people working directly for the Spaceport. This is an amazing chance for southern New Mexico to get out of the low-paying jobs rut that it has been in for decades. Hopefully, forward-thinking people will see this fantastic opportunity and support it.

I really think this needs to start out as a private venture. Just as flight did.
It was 22 years between the Wright Brothers first flight at Kitty Hawk, and the opening of the first municipal airport in the country in Cleaveland Ohio.
I'm all for a Spaceport, but there are going to be all sorts of procedural bugs to work out after it gets up and running. Having it run by the government will only slow the process of work through those bugs, and may lead to it's eventual demise.

If I understand it, the government gets involved from the prospective of insuring a financial base from which it can guarantee infrastructure and and operation, much like the governmental cooperation that led to the full construction and implementation of the D-FW Airport complex. The good folks of north Texas supported that venture with both their good wishes and their money. Private capital poured in once it was established. The returns from the Spaceport venture have the POSSIBILITY of returning to local economies far more than the small tax imposed to seed and maintain it. Nothing is certain, for sure. If I were a wagering person, I think this would be a good bet, however.

That "billionaire" will not own it, NM will. He is LEASING it. We need to support the spaceport. It will bring a new, exciting industry to this part of the state.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO GO THROUGH 4 COUNTIES TROLL BOY...LOOK AT A MAP! My husband use to work south of Stallion Ranch which was between Carrizozo and Socorro for a contractor before getting a civil service job. If the money's right and they pay perdiem, people will commute to work at the Space Port.

It's still over a two hour drive one way, and by the
time it's done gas will be 5.00$$$ a gallon.
It's not going to Alamogordo any good, but get people to move away, to the I-25 corridor.
IF the money's right, IF they pay perdiem,
Thats two VERY BIG IFS!!

Like some have said, Alamo is too far away to commute and we will only get some tourist money out of the deal which we will get even if we don't pay a Spaceport Tax. Now if they opened up the old Highway 52? a straight shot to Hot Springs it may be a better ballgame for Otero County.
An added plus would be a much shorter drive to the Butte.

That being said, I think we should vote NO on any new taxes in Otero County involving this proposed "Spaceport".

If this is a govt. operation, you will have a badge and should be able to commute through the range.

Will it be like all the other major space programs where all the big jobs are held by those who commute from different states?

What about property taxes after the thing is built? For all you retirees living in the area, there will be major construction of housing, etc.

How much water is this place going to use?

Just a thought.

The Space Port will be close to Elephant Butte and won't effect Alamogordo's water supply.

This new business venture will bring lots of opportunity to the entire area. Opportunity means jobs, jobs mean income and education for people to fill those jobs. NM has been mired in a lack of income for itself and its people for a very long time. Why turn your back on an opportunity to benefit and grow the entire southern NM area?

Daily Horoscope for December 24

Libra

It's Christmas Eve and you're running around like a scalded cat. However, it will do you no end of good if you can find a few moments here and there for some quiet contemplation. You might want to visit a place that's sacred to you, or take a walk in some beautiful surroundings so you can commune with nature. You need to feel that you're connecting with something bigger than yourself.
