I am researching my grandparents in the Whitley county area MY maternal grandfather was Will Bart Estes and my paternal grandfather was John Lewis Reeves.. I know very little about the Estes side of my family. I understand Will Bart Estes died in a mine cave-in when my mother, opal dean, was only 1-2 months old. I would cherish knowing about grandfather Will's family.
Most sincerely, Brenda Estes Reeves |

You'll find Eula Grace Rains, spouse of Will B. Estes. Her parents shown as Samuel H. Rains b. May 20, 1867 in Rockhold, Whitley Co., KY, and Eleanor Ellen (Ella) Broyles b. July 11, 1874 Rockhold, Whitley, KY. Shows Eula b. Dec. 8, 1895 and d. Aug. 1977 in Sykesville, Carroll Co., MD. Didn't find any other info. on Will B. Estes. Children of Will B. & Eula Grace (Rains) Estes shown on this family file as Dean Opal, and Eunice. Ironically, Eula Rains is a sister to my husband's grandmother Muriel Rains who married Edward Byrd. We never knew much about Muriel's family, although the older generation may know lots more than we do! Wow, what a coincidence! I looked briefly for info. on John Lewis Reeves but didn't find anything....gotta go to bed! Happy Hunting! |

Brenda, if you're in Whitley County, go by the Historical Society...it's on the corner of Main & Depot Street in the old L & N Depot. They have lots of info like census, etc.

Thank you very much for your response. I remember visiting aunt Muriel at mammer,s home in rock holds during summer, cousin Ruth uncle Ed and many others! THey are treasured, precious memories! MY parents and Eula lived next door to mammer until we all moved to Maryland. MAny year ago, some Estes relative sent to me a photo of will Bart Estes' tombstone and the memorial on it I have lost it. I understand Eula's sister cryatal had married one of the Estes brothers also &that marriage failed. I assume they did not look favorably on another Estes/rains marriage. I would love to know much more. If I should have an opportunity to visit ky again, I have much research to do. Again, many thanks. Brenda. Revmor@yahoo.com5507
