WASHINGTON – There will be no cost-of-living increase for more than 50 million Social Security recipients next year, the first year without a raise since automatic adjustments were adopted in 1975.
Blame falling consumer prices. By law, cost-of-living adjustments are pegged to inflation, which is negative this year because of lower energy costs. Social Security payments, however, do not go down even when prices drop. As the AP notes, a $4,700 pay raise took effect in January; congressional salaries now stand at $174,000. Robert Byrd, who backed the pay raises back in 1989, argues that a system of automatic pay raises avoids grandstanding on the issue; his spokesman said Byrd believes that if members of Congress don’t want the raises, they “can return that portion of their salary to the Treasury.” I WONDER HOW MANY IN CONGRESS SENT BACK THEIR RASE???????? |

Just last night there was a fire on Bryden. The Desert Hills Fire Dept. took over 20 minutes to respond. I call the station to see if they knew about it, no answer, I called 911 (River Medical) they told me Desert Hills Fire is aware of it. The city responded FASTER then Desert Hills Fire. I am sure the fire chief has A LOT to do with things like this. |
