All the "digs" at Southerners and Florida drivers. Tsk tsk tsk. Truth is the makeup of people on the road at any one time in Florida is almost sure to be mostly Northern aggressors. Sorry to say, all the people you curse and make all the nasty comments about are probably from New York, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Vermont, etc. and very, very few native old time Florida Crackers. I think they come down here with all their bad aggressive driving habits and just go wild. We Floridians are more gracious, calm, and friendly people who say "HI" and wave (With ALL our fingers, not just the middle ones)

I'm not surprised at this.
I've just spent 2 weeks in Florida and was shocked by the standard of driving over there. Everyone is so agressive, cutting you up all the time and overtaking on both sides (which is illegal in europe).
On the day we left (20 March) there were 6 crashes within an hour of each other on I4 before noon.
I drive 40,000 miles a year in the UK and our speeds are much higher than in the US and never see the amount of wrecks and bad driving you see over there.
True, but they surely know how to make a single accident a dramatic event.

The two men were killed and four rescuers were injured Saturday when they were struck by a tractor-trailer after they stopped to help a couple trapped in an overturned pickup in the median of Florida's Turnpike near Wildwood.

You are correct sir. When I moved here 15 years ago from the north, I noticed that Central Florida drivers were significantly more courteous. Now after the real estate boom and NYer infestation, that has all evaporated. The self-absorbed NY/NJ population has brought its rude and obnoxious way and ruined this area.

Left my Orange County home before 1100 for a meeting in Ocala at 2:45. We have never driven up this way before so we thought we had plenty of time. My husband set the cruise control at 55. When we came to a 75 mph zone, I had to ask him to speed up as everyone was plainly going 85-95. He increased the speed to 70 and we stayed in the right lane. We weren't in a hurry but everyone else was and let us know it. I didn't much care for the tailgating and the hand gesture.

When the traffic came to a standstill, we were not surprised that there had been a terrible collision. Notice I didn't say accident.

While we were late for our appointment at the very least we arrived safely. I feel so sad for the family that has sustained such a loss today and for the loss they will feel everyday from now on.

I would certainly not want to be the driver that hit those men. Today will have changed that person forever too.

Doesn't seem worth it to arrive somewhere a few minutes early when there is so much at stake.

Oh and my slower but courteous driver is from New York. Ya'll can generalize your comments and slurs if you want but I have lived in a lot of places (NY, NJ, Philly, VA, NC) and this area is by far the worst.

The father and son were my cousins. I just learned about this and logged on to find out some more details. I came across these comments that are just plain ridiculous. A father and son die and you start talking about puerto ricans with rice burners and NY area hispanics, because of their names? I think that if you dont have any thing intelligent to post you shouldn't post anything. I think we should all focus on the immediate situation here.

It SOUNDS racist, but it's merely RACIAL. I was introduced to this concept (horrible PR drivers) on John Young Pkwy several years ago, after just moving to Florida. Traffic was absolutely stopped at the area of JYP and SR 528, where three lanes go to two. Stopped, except for the PR guy that came screaming by in his Honda Civic-minus shock absorbers. He raced in a straight line along the passing lane, then the shoulder, and finally onto the median, where he ran straight into a thirty-foot tall roadsign support. No brakes, just RRRRRRRRRRRRtink.

Does it mean that they value life less on the island than here?

This is from another FL news site...of course they have more info then the Sentinel does....notice the guys age that killed these poor men...oh and of course no charges were filed.

"According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a Ford station wagon driven by Everett R. Witt, 73, of Leesburg, was traveling northbound when it clipped a tractor-trailer near mile marker 306, about a mile north of U.S. Highway 301, at about 10:25 a.m.

The station wagon then caromed into the two workers, who were wearing safety vests, the FHP said. Traffic cones were set up to separate the travel lane from the shoulder, the FHP said.

The crash remains under investigation.

No charges have been filed."

I drove to Tampa last week and was amazed at the difference between the manners of the drivers in Orlando and those in Tampa. Tampa's were so much better the difference was black and white. An easy flow regardless of how congested it was, everyone just took it in stride.
People of Central Florida, you need to chill out. Tailgating and flipping out is not going to get you there any faster, and may in fact slow you down a LOT if you end up dead.
Hahaha, amazed at the driving difference of people in Tampa? What was this, your first time out of the city?

If the driver who killed these guys is still alive he should get vehicular homicide.

Those ridiculous cars with those pitiful mufflers trying to replace heavy duty engines. They actually think they are 'way cool' with a mean V8 race car. All this to impress WHO?

Please get those off the road. You accomplish nothing more than to reinforce my belief and many like me of your obvious lack of any hope of higher intelligence.

Not at all, thanks for asking. Merely the 1st time I've commented on it. I'm from LA, famous for traffic, and if half the people on I-4 drove as they do on the 405 or 101, they'd be dead in no time flat.
