Fine him. Just because he bought a house with problems and cannot use legal channels to gain satisfaction doesn't mean that he can lower the property values of his neighbors.

I for one do not appreciate his method of raising the issue. Does Bowden think he is above the law?

Cary could sure use the revenue. Please fine him $500 per day as the law allows.

Does not appear to be a sign to me. It looks like freedom of speech.

Even if he's attempting extortion, the "sign" itself should be protected speech. I'm not aware of all the particulars and if he's right or wrong, but imagine if you were trying to fight an entire city government by yourself and weren't rich.
Whether he's right or wrong--bravo for having the balls! Cary and their stupid HoAa make me want to get as far away from here as possible. I've gotten letters while I was on vacation because my grass grew more than a couple of inches, but my neighbor down the street can have 2 cars parked on his front lawn and another 3 in the back; cars parked perpendicularly to the curb; what looks like a daycare, with many different children staying during the afternoons, running up and down the street (some 8-9 year olds even took their van for a joy ride); and many unrelated people living in the same house. Of course, they can only "investigate" that. This "town" is a joke and they only selectively enforce ordinances.

Cary could use the revenue? This is a VERY wealthy town! It cracks me up to see this http://simpsonsparadox.com/2009/08/screwed-by... next to all the neighborhoods where the development floorplans and HOA particulars make the houses totally indistingishable from each other.

I think this article should mention that the flooding was caused by the widening of Maynard Road. There's a great photo here, if you missed the clip on the news. http://simpsonsparadox.com/2009/08/screwed-by...

Or you can drive by and laugh at his dumb arse for being such a hard head that he's painted himself into a corner and is too stubborn to accept the help the town has offered to make his drainage problem more manageable.

No buy-out for you buddy!

I support Mr. Bowdens right to express himself in the medium he has chosen. Seeing as it is his property, I don't consider this a 'sign' as defined by the town of Cary. I'm fact, it could be considered art by definition.
The opinions of people concerning the actual issue between Mr. Bowden & the town of Cary is of unimportance since the writing is what people have chosen to make an issue.
Mr. Bowden has a right to freedom of speech & I support him wholeheartedly in his endeavor to be heard.

I also support his freedom of speech & sign...but not his extortion attempt. When all the background facts are known his sign is nothing more than a running joke and will continue to lose impact the longer its up.

I just saw the picture of the home in 1995 from wake county's tax site. What a huge difference! I would like to know if Mr. Bowden was approached with the proposed changes to HIS property and if he was offered money as compensation. Did he accept it? If he did, oh well he is SOL unless there is damage as he states from the town's work that they will not remedy. If he never agreed to the changes, shame on cary, and he should get a few million for his troubles......then he can move to a new home.

Ha , I think that if the town of Cary wants him to take it down, then take it down to avoid the fines. BUT..it is Christmas time!!! Every heard of Christmas Lights, or a bunch of red bows that read "screwed by the town of Cary" in bright red bows or lights lights.

If Cary complains about his lights, they will be very busy as they will have to hold everyone in Cary to the same standards about their Christmas decorations if they try and tell him to take it down! I would like to see what people have to say if he does do something Holiday related and Cary tries to only penalize him, that would be a definite violation of free speech among many other things.

For those that talk about how his sign brings down property values and such, uh...if you were frustrated and fighting a government with very little funds...I think your opinion would be quite different regarding the painted sign. I am taking it upon myself to personally write a letter to the town of cary and the governor of NC regarding this man's issue. I am tired of people running over the little guy and insurance screwing people. We all depend on one another so if your viewpoint is that of selfishness (worried about home values), then please refrain from commenting.

Oh...I hope he leaves the sign up. People are not complaining about the sign...the government does not like all the publicity he is receiving. I should post a sign up in his yard saying "Kudos"!!!

Good for you Mr Bowden. Fight, document, be heard. Water is nothing to take lightly. Mine caused Black Mold. I fought 2 years against the builder. Finally, the county commissioner's (I believe) forced the builder to buy back the house. This way I got out of the home, the builder got a new rental property and the builder didn't have to do any Black Mold Remediation.
Good for you.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Cancer

If you want to avoid having a row with someone, get out and about as much as possible today so you can work off all your nervous energy. If you stay in one place for too long you'll be in danger of becoming moody, and possibly even a right old crosspatch. You might also lose your temper with loved ones who are being bolshie or who have the audacity to disagree with you about something. Lighten up, Cancer!
