"It just gets worse and worse, so we’re closing the lane until they can establish what’s causing it," said Nelson Blanchard, district transportation administrator for the Vermont Agency of Transportation.

What a bunch of crap. I thought I was told 3-5 years ago, that there were old wooden timbers that were used to construct the "wall" back in the 50's or 60's, and those are rotting away. Maybe that is just local knowledge that was spread around and the AOT guys had no clue. I guess we'll see what happens and hope the road does not end up in the river.

Typical DOT planning. They would still be putting it off if the road wasn't sinking into the river. Now they will tick the tourists off with the delays when they could have gotten the Army Corps of Engineers involved 3 years ago and gotten some federal money to fix the road. It is amazing that they have done all that construction to straighten out Route 9 betweeen here and Brattleboro but they never addressed this problem spot. That was a rough area of the road 20 years ago.

Well now we know where RV has been hiking... She can't hike in the woods like a normal person and now has destroyed a perfectly good road by ignoring the weight limit signs.... Weight Watchers is covered by some insurance carriers RV... Look into it!!!!!

We'll be spreading some cold patch on the area and it will be good as new.

HAHA!! Wilmington figured out how to slow and stop traffic during the upcoming foliage season! Bennington works hard to get them through as fast as they can so they can enjoy a slow ride and spend all their money in Wilmington! Good business plan!

One of the best things about this stoplight is the speed aproaching the light is 50mph. The speed sign for 35mph is actually after the light below the guardrail. So no one can see the slower speed. The first day it was up some tractor trailer almost killed some cars that were waiting for the light to change.
DOT in Wilmington are IDIOTS the road HAS been sinking ALL spring and summer. All those good old boys did was dump more blacktop in the hole.
Bottom line watch out for the out of state tractor trailer speeding up behind you when you get to this light.
I hate to say it but someone is probably going to be killed by DOT's solution to this problem.

It's all part of tourist reduction program. No reduce the overall number of vehicles on the road, we are willing to sacrifice a number of you. Our cost benefit analysis has shown that reducing vehicle traffic vs repairing the road will be less costly. Our lawyers tell us that any resultant deaths can be attributed to "drunk-driving".
Thank you.

Ah yes, a new place for the staties to issue "speeding in a work zone" tickets. Great revenue producer from these out-of-towners. Almost as effective as the one Old Bennington police car across from the 4 Chimneys on Friday nights.

I don't care about Rt 9.

All I ask is that Dewey street (from Main to Elm) gets paved sometime before my car falls apart.

The Town of Bennington has a deal with local auto parts dealers so there is a constant need for ball joints, tie rod ends, struts, springs and other suspension parts! Repair places are also making a fortune on repairs and alignments! There is no need for roads to be in such bad shape for so long! A note about safety! The guard rail on the Branch Street (Brooklin) bridge is still in a cobbed up situation! This has been how long? Thats what I thought! Want me to list the things the town found more important? I think those who live here already know!

I think the town highway workers are still shoveling sewage out of that house from last summer.
We have a similar problem with the roadbed on Rt. 7 in NY, the state contracted for striping to be done before Memorial day traffic and they just barely got finished on time, but they striped right over all the potholes so IF and when the state does go patch those holes, they will have to repair the stripes they just paid for. Pennywise = dollar stupid.

None of the above. It was a plain-looking chick, trying to look all dressed up, but failing miserably.
