For someone who hates religion you sure spend a lot of time talking about it. Who are you trying to convince that it's false? Live your life and be happy.

Well-said! Life is too short! Why would anyone waste their time here, trying to disprove others. Live and let live, dummies!

The whole history of these books [the Gospels] is so defective and doubtful that it seems vain to attempt minute enquiry into it: and such tricks have been played with their text, and with the texts of other books relating to them, that we have a right, from that cause,to entertain much doubt what parts of them are genuine. In the New Testament there is internal evidence that parts of it have proceeded from an extraordinary man; and that other parts are of the fabric of very inferior minds. It is as easy to separate those parts,as to pick out diamonds from dunghills.
-Thomas Jefferson,letter to John Adams,January 24,1814
Thomas Jefferson had the morals of an earthworm and was a slave owner. One of which was his concubine and gave birth to his children.

Maybe it is time to look up to someone else and let this oversexed slave owner fade away and put MLK on the two dollar bill.

Well even if we overlook the red herring of his owning slaves you have to admit he was only doing the Biblical thing in keeping them. "Slaves, obey your earthly masters with deep respect and fear. Serve them sincerely as you would serve Christ." (Ephesians 6:5 NLT)

tl;dr Bible endorses slavery, god inspired the bible, god endorses slavery.

If you want to claim slavery is immoral then your god is immoral. So which is it?

Jefferson was not the only one who called for a government separate from religion. Thomas Paine gives a damning critique of religion in his book "The Age of Reason" and I think you will be hard pressed to find irrelevant accusations to distract attention from his points supporting the Jeffersonian view. But you are a religious zealot so it will not be surprising if you conjure some bs excuse to dismiss him as well.

I will not attack your doctrines nor your creeds if they accord liberty to me. If they hold thought to be dangerous - if they aver that doubt is a crime, then I attack them one and all, because they enslave the minds of men.- Robert Green Ingersoll

Religion enslaves the minds of men. It demands that you forgo reason in favor of blind credulity and submission. The wish for religion to be true is to wish to live as an abject slave. I oppose all forms of tyranny, earthly and celestial and will take every opportunity to free those who will stop, listen, and take the step of thinking for themselves. Why do I dislike religion? Your preachments are evil and a direct threat to a free society.

The only evil in this debate are the hate mongers like your self whose hatred of the Christian religion can only be eclisped by the hatred of Hitler and his followers toward the Jewish people.

You made your bed. Sleep in it. But at least we have a happy heart and are the majority.

Had those old men known when they wrote that document our world would be unforuante enough to be infested with haters like your self, they might have done something different.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

To this day some people still have so many problems after the Founding Fathers decided the Constitution should extend those pesky civil rights to all citizens, thereby protecting even minorities and the least among us.

MrDesoto, does it surprise you anymore how Christians shamelessly play the victim card as if they are the ones being persecuted? I am not.

Your reference to Hitler is bogus. Hitler was a confessing catholic christian. His first concordance was with the Vatican. Every german solider swore in the name of "almighty god" their loyalty to Hitler. Every german solder wore a belt buckle that said "got min unst" or "god on our side". The holocaust is a direct result of one passage in one book of Saint Johns gospel. Your religion is what led to concentration camps and human ovens. So you can take your appeals to fascism to argue against my position and shove them back up the ignorant ass from which you pulled them.

Yes, reason, education, free inquiry, and liberty are direct threats to your religion. That is the reason you constantly seek to pass laws imposing your religiously derived demands upon everyone. Your religion promotes ignorance and superstition and prejudice and hatred. It deserves to be ridiculed and debunked every time it rears its ugly head.

I talk about facts. You talk about myths.

So "freeing" someone from a delusion equals hate? Riiiiiight... So freeing a crack addict from his addiction is hateful? After all he is completely happy on his crack binge so why would you want to interfere with his happiness? Asserting that religion is a good thing because you are "happy" is no more to the point than claiming a drunk man is happier than a sober man.

My bed is made of facts supported by evidence. I sleep soundly knowing my bed does not require that I enslave my mind to a tyrannical sky daddy. My bed doesn't require that I mutilate the genitals of my children, or hate gay people for their nature. My bed is freedom whereas yours is a festering heap of superstitious nonsense and distain for those who violate the commands of your imaginary sky wizard. I use to sleep in that bed too, SO SO SO glad I was able to remove myself from it.

Now stop crying that I am persecuting you, how childish. I am attacking your delusional religious doctrine which is quite different and completely separate from YOU.

Now cry some more, I know you are capable but I never tire of reading the illogical reasons behind it.

Nope, it doesn't surprise me at all anymore.

Somehow, Atheists' disbelief in their woo-woo causes some of these theists major problems. I don't see how my disbelief interferes with their freedom to worship whatever myth they want. Likewise, they should not have problems with extending the same rights and freedoms of not having their unjustified religion imposed on non-believers. But, when they overreach those constitutional boundaries, they feel victimized for not being able to impose their woo-woo on everyone.

Sorry, never met that person, not that it matters. It is very telling that you are so desperate to avoid defending your religious BS that you even bother with names. Even if you knew my name I would not care, it is irrelevant to the conversation nor would it intimidate me. Your name my be James, or Tom, or Bill, or Bob, but as your name has nothing to do with the irrational nature of your religion I don't bother trying to guess; by doing so you all but admit your position is indefensible. I appreciate that BTW

As far as rest goes, posting facts and ridiculing the pathetic aspects of wish thinking cults like yours is no chore. Hell a 5 year old could do what I do without much more effort. If you don't like it then don't read it, it is that simple. If you want to challenge me on the merits then go ahead. But if you think for one second that posting names of witch hunt victims is going to change my mind or discourage me from writing my thoughts in this public forum then you can take a number, get in line, and kiss my ass. I don't run from religious bullies.

Have you picked a number yet James? I don't know your name either but if we are going to be assigning names arbitrarily I think James fits you well, you do sound like a zealous religious fanatic of the same name so you are in like company.

James, check out this article I just found. http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/guest-voi...

"How the Web is killing faith"

It sure helped me kill mine. Give it time James, just stay here in my domain and it will eventually sink in.
