Oh boy, another useless park. Take land out of production costing us potential jobs & taking the property off the tax rolls.

Create yet another park that nobody will come up to see.

This is already a park, jerk!
It is probably property left tot he county for a park and either way, it is a beautiful piece for the locals and wild life to enjoy , close to town.

Leave it as it is. Great place to take the kiddies, to have lunch on your lunch hour or to meditate, meet friends for a swim .........a piece of heaven not owned by the national or state parks.
I suggest you go there sometime.

why clutter up that area with homes etc?
OR is there some favoritism to a builder in the closet.
Fovoritism is not unknown in the Board of Supervisors!

I use to listen to Monday Morning Magazine on KMUD, Dennis Huber host's that talk show. Can you beleive what they are asking of the neighbor now that the Park Board needs them? Those neighbors have been taking all the heat for the Park Boards problems and now they want to get to know them because they need them. If I was a neighbor and been attacked like they have, I would tell Dennis Huber F'in you. What goes around comes around, Karma is alive and well at the SoHum Park.

Too many times, we dont question the negative, often malicious consequences of our greed. While progress should never come to a halt, there are many places it should never come to at all.

hmmm. I have not heard any attacks on neighbors by anybody.
The park is not for others to come and see like a trophy. it is a space to be used by people--most often the locals and less frequently guests of concerts or local residents.

the thing that is unique about southern humboldt is its internal fix-it-ness of local problems. there was nothing to do so people made a reggae concert so they pay for a fun, active community hall. the local radio station went away and they got together and made KMUD. hospice, shwt, beginnings, and how much else?

now then, the thing is a park. its needed; its used; and it keeps houses off the land. when that started, toobey ranch was being sectioned up for housing and some people obtained a piece to keep open for public use. that cost them something and i imagine it would be good if the thing could pay for itself someway.

i like capatilism and socialism and this seems like them marrying nicely. rent some space out for public events to producers; put green housing on a corner for income and a service (housing is HARD to find in case you are out of that loop); and give like crazy. right now there is a b'zillion hole frisbe golf course, many trails, a skateramp, picnic tables. that costs money to make happen folks.

i live above the park. it is not unreasonable to have concerts down there . if they had one a week all summer it would be 16 days of my year. we can agree to be reasonable. no more than 4 shows a year until two am(all on weekends), the rest quit at midnight on weekends and 10pm weeknights.

that land is under active cultivation; garden, hay, forestry. milk, eggs, fowl, or like that would be a nice addition.

i generally hate progress as well as mr. voice, but this is the kind I do like. something of community built. i hate to see housing and formal fields go in, but it isn't all about what i want. and as the article states: its a big piece of land; it can accomodate quite a lot. perhaps the college will let us build a field up there.

anyway; to the souls who keep that park moving, i have no idea who you are, but i am grateful and i see what a gift it is of money, time, and headache.

thanks.

Thanks for your kind words, but do you want to know so facts before you support something?

The fact is, not only does the community of So Hum have the right to ask questions, but in fact they are the stockholders of the Park. After all, the Park Board is a Corperation, a non-profit, but a corperation never the less. This community dotanted to have this Park, not as a concert venue, not for any kind of housing development, but as a working farm and a Park.

Do you know, that in the Plans for changing the zoning and land use for the Park, the Park Board wants to allow cars to be parked on the River Bar, on their property across the River, where they lease to a instream gravel extraction and cement/concrete ready mix operation called Randall Sand & Gravel?

Do you know, that the Park Board wants to use the Organic Certified Hay fields for Parking lots.

These and many more plans are already on the table. People in this community need to know what is being done. They Park Board and the Mateel may call it Summer Arts, but the Music Festival side of the show is nothing but Reggae on the River.

The fact is I am all for this Park, as a Park. Not a development site for people outside this community to make money.

I will leave you with this thought, if the Park is still in debt and are busted broke, where do you come up with $50K to $100K to get the property rezoned and land Use changed? For the last 9 years, the property has not been paid off, the Park has always lived in debt. Maybe if you saw their records and saw were the money has gone, instead of into the Park property, you could more understand my side of the story.

Thank you,

board of supervisors..........back off from changing the zoning or anything else of this park.
it is part of a community and has been for a long time.
Let some land alone.
why do you want to change things when they are fine the way they are......for money? for a favor to some construction business , some builder etc.?

I smell a rat but have faith in Clendenon.......that he will not vote for this.

Greed is what our government is all about. Let's be humans in Humboldt County and leave this land for the locals, their hay, their gardens, a piece of heaven near town for the community.
