Like any industry if you're not someone's protege where does anyone start? The most anyone can do is try to approach any job with a positive outlook. If you invest in a long term goal like owning your own truck it may help drive you through a slump. As you drive on you pass milestones. Any industry if you invest part of what you are earning you become the owner of your business. If you are earning $35K/year and invest 10%($67/wk) at 8% roi yearly you'll have $50K built up in 10 years. During possibly the start of this depression I was doing online stock trading making 40% in under 3 months by researching. You can find a visually decent tractor for $25K, and trailers for under $10K. If you're bringing home $6-700/wk that's easy to do and live decently. Sorry no more contacts than school currently my trucking advisor a O/O running a refer van unit passed away in his truck about 5 years ago. He did relate the industry both positive and negative. Others I know run a single unit out of a salvage yard, and year after year their driver remains having a good attitude. There's no driver shortage as there is always an immigrant that came from incomes far below the stated start level and would be happy to have that job. Adapt and overcome is all there is to any work. Took 3 months in the Marines to earn a title, some uniforms, training, and about $600. Once in the fleet treatment of a boot was not great. That income weekly is a great upgrade. Who is really screwed? Time and a set goal is better than looking for perfection.
