That display has absolutely nothing to do with Christmas Spirit. It's basically a festival of lights, an amusement attraction to celebrate the Season of Buying. People spend several weeks leading up to Christmas buying new furniture, painting and refurbishing the house for all of the the fistivities. See, it's "gotta look good"/ The tree, well, it must be PROPERLY color coordinated with the room decor, you know. All the while, they have some (sick) sense it's okay with the God they claim to believe in. Then, by January 15th, after the hangovers and the Christmas tree are history, the "B_stard Within" has already reemerged and is in full gear.
When I see these people in the stores, all dressed up like Dicken's characters (gagging), with big (fake) smiles and some of wildest (strange)(crazy) laughs which come out ONLY at Christmas.......they look like a bunch of sickos on a temporary bi-polar high.
If you aren't a pleasant, joyous, appreciative, HONEST person all year long, take the damned tree down and sleep the season off 'cause you are a big phony.
Lights in the Parkway feeds off of you sickos as the mayor laughs. By the way, when is this creep going to be put in his place?

I was alittle disappointed with the Lights in the Parkway this year. It didn t seem as many as there were last year. Am not complaining tho. Children love to see these lights, it is beautiful to them. The Christmas season is about the birth of Christ, and we know that. However, it is the season of giving and loving and being with family and friends. The people that have negative attidues, most be very lonely and have no life. Let the children marvel in the love and the spirit of Christmas. I am an adult and I do.....

I can't be Scrooge.
Scrooge lost the Christmas Spirit, which is about Christ's birth and spirituality. It took 3 spirits to coax him back to his sense.
Light in the Parkway is part of a new holiday named Winter Festival which Scrooge is not a part of.

I must be Scrooge like as well because I think the "Lights in the Parkway" are a mistake. The Parkway should not be used as a commercial enterprise. It is wrong to charge the taxpayers of Allentown an additional fee to use something WE have already paid for.

Besides that, there is the destruction of the property itself. How much sense does it make to cut down living trees to make way for fake ones? This whole thing was stupid from the start and should be done away with.

What this city should be doing is decorating the homeless. It would be far more festive and wide ranging seeing as how they encompass the entire city and not only the Parkway.

The Lights in the Parkway have nothing to do with the spirit of Christmas. They are there only to generate money. If the "leaders" of Allentown thought for one minute that money could be made off of Kwanzaa, there would be Kwanzaa lights in the Parkway.

I cant believe all the negative attidudes about the Lights in the Parkway. So what if it is money making for the City of Allentown... What is the big deal... It is a family time together with their children. Watching their faces smile at the lights is worth more than 7 dollars. Everyone is always complaining about Family s not doing things together. This is family time and being happy.... What are you people thinking.. It is beautiful and if you don t want to go, then dont.... Have a Very Merry Christmas, and a Happy New Year

Hopefully it's going towards buying more lights for next year just to tick people like you off.

Some people exist to complain. What a sad life.

Save your personal attacks, and see if you'd like to just comment on the facts instead of only having an opinion on other people's posts.
Now, maybe you don't know this, but there is good reason for people to be pissed. First and foremost, the man who donated all that land to the city of Allentown did so with the understanding that the parks would always be FREE to use. This was a big sticking point when it was decided to do Lights In The Parkway, but they decided the money was more important. Now, not only are they going against those wishes, they're not even putting the money they make back into the park. The bridge that allows people to drive through and enjoy both ends of that same parkway has been out for many years. Does that seem fair ?

If you don't like the lights, don't go. If you think the park should be free because taxes pay for the park, why do so few people use the park when it is free. Chances are, those that complain that the park should be free, don't go there even once a year.
Keep Christ in Christmas? Well, don't put up a tree, that's a Pagan tradition. Don't buy gifts or talk about Santa, there's no Christ in Santa. Don't go shopping for gifts unless you're getting gifts for the baby Jesus.
Keep telling us what to do 'holier than thou' Christians. You're corrupting the Christmas spirit.

Addressing the part about the parks being free, it has nothing to do with "taxes paying for the park". Maybe you didn't read my whole statement.
I do use the parkway. Have for almost 40 years. I fish there, take my family for picnics and do all the other things the man who donated the land wanted the park used for.
All I'm saying is, if they're going to milk money out of the parkway against the wishes of the benefactor, at least put enough money back into the parkway so it can continue to be used in the manner it was intended the other 11 months.

Well, because it is a public park. The land is for the free use by all.

It is like me charging you a buck to use your own driveway.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Pisces

Things are not always what they seem today, so be careful. Someone might appear to be completely honest but turn out later to have been fooling you in some way. Or a situation may seem quite clear-cut right now but forthcoming events will reveal that things are very different under the surface. So be wary about who and what you believe, and don't let anyone push you into making important decisions today because they may not be in your best interests.
