I am a retired law officer and fully support the actions of this man that was physically attacked by four adults. He did the only available option that could have been done. The choice was made by these perps. They just did not like the consiquences and obviously neither did others. I think this no weapons policy is correct however two should deliver with another armed person along with them. Provide the safety for the delivery person then enforce no weapons policy. This man should be offered his job back and given that option. I carry everywhere I go concealed and the same end result would exist if that was me. I encourage a boycott of that particular pizza hut until this return job offer is made. I know that I will not get my 4 pizzas a week that I purchase for my employees there every week untill I hear that a job offer has been made. Till then I will go elsewhere.

I too work in the same area and the same job at a diff. place. we have the same policy that i dont agree with. If we are unprotected and have a cwp then we should be able to carry. I also fully agree with Mr. Hansen.

OMG, the character of a person who is trying to rob a delivery driver is certainly NOT "REAL GOOD." In fact, it's the opposite of good. So if you're approached by several people obviously coming to rob you and you have a gun and no escape, what exactly will you do? I supplement my full-time job income by delivering pizzas 2 nights/week. If someone was trying to rob me, I'd be robbed and maybe I'd be killed as well. Is my life worth more than the life of some scumbag who's robbing a driver? ABSOLUTELY. I'm a productive member of society with morals, values, ethics, and a sense of personal responsibility and accountability. If I'm trying to rob someone and they shoot me well, good for them because, you know, I was in the wrong by trying to them & all. Ugh. What, pray tell, were Mr. Miller's other options, exactly? When someone's coming at you in a forceful way, it would be very foolish indeed to assume they don't have a weapon. Your attacker is forcing you to believe your life is in imminent danger. You can't just shoot to immobilize when it's unclear whether your attacker has a weapon or not - that would only endanger your life more. Mr. Miller acted both within the scope of the law and within very reasonable ethical and moral boundaries. Yes, he violated policy and yes he should have been terminated for that reason. Delivery drivers are always a target for scum, but the company has a policy for a reason and I'm sure it has a lot to do insurance requirements. So unless you want to cover those costs by paying $100 for a large pizza, there's really not much else they can do but comply with requirements to keep costs down. Just remember your delivery driver just put his/her life in danger to deliver your food because you were too lazy/busy or didn't want to go out in bad weather. TIP ACCORDINGLY. |
