I just have to say that I worked with this officer many years ago and I was in shock when I heard. I too couldn't believe it was him. He truly would of given the shirt of his back. He was a very respected and kind officer. I know what has happened makes everyone mad to hear this happened but we can not judge to harsly without knowing the whole story. There could be unforseen things going on and I'm not saying that it makes it right but some of your comments are very harsh. We all make bad decisions in life and that doesn't define who we always are.

Officer Wilson is one of the NICEST police officers i've EVER met in the dupage area (and in my life) and one of the few that actually takes his job seriously and has a fair and real personality. some police officer's around here are absolutely ridiculous.
I don't expect anyone to believe that he's innocent (honestly if i didn't know him i might find it humorous) and come on A POLICE OFFICER GOT BUSTED! any forum browsing loser would take 10 minutes out of their day to post hateful comments about BAD COP behavior if it makes them feel better about their existence. i personally could never see the man doing anything like that. i think there's probably more to the story that obviously would be omitted when a police officer and the news is involved. he and his family are very nice people, which is hard to find in such a close-minded, judgemental town, so i'm rooting for you officer wilson. i really hope he can keep his job and continue his work at wheaton north because he's one of the few good influences left there.
and honestly who seriously cares SO MUCH that a police officer stole a few dvds. and by the way not all officers of the law steal drugs and money...especially when you come from a town that's barely even on the map. of course i wouldn't expect anyone to know that since most of you live hundreds of miles away. if you wanna trash talk the authorities maybe you should check out what CHICAGO PD has been up to lately because physical violence against chicago citzens ACTUALLY AFFECTS PEOPLE'S LIVES believe it or not!
DAMN.
feel free to say what you want about this i could honestly care less i said what i wanted to say and hopefully someone reads it with an open mind...haha but i'm no gonna check up on this every 5 minutes to see if i can start an online forum war with people who not only actually waste time to retaliate to this but to insult a woman's dead husband and police officers in general because someone's mad they got arrested once.
and for those of you on here looking for a reason to write some more hateful insignificant crap, YOU'RE WELCOME.
Why dont you go burn down the little kids playground again.

This Wilson makes me sick. He is an arrogant person. I hope his wife (who by the way was appointed as a Judge in DuPage County this past June) is able to support both of them. His entire family lives off of taxpayers (Freedom of Information Act)

Guess What - Max Wilson's court records were deleted from the DuPage County Circuit Court records. How does that happen? There is no record of his arrest last year. Did his wife ask for special favors from Circuit Court Clerk Chris Kacheroubus? At least this year we have a choice of who we can vote for in DuPage County.

I have read each comment and now I would live to voice my opinion. I can say that I personally knew Max Wilson very well when he was a young high school student at Wheaton Central High School. Was he a friend of mine? Perhaps. I would say more of an acquaintance and teammate. Did we hang out? No. Were we cordial? Yes. Max competed in track and cross-country with me, and I even remember going to his house for a track team party held at his parent's old Wheaton home near WCHS. I can say we were both talented and competitive runners.

When I knew Max back then, Max had the quintessential personality for a police officer. Serious, hard working, and dedicated to whatever his passion was at the time. When I knew him, his passion was running. He was an excellent 800m runner, even qualifying for the State track meet and running at Purdue. I also was close friends with his old high school sweetheart very well.

Life experiences form who we are. Actions of people are sometimes unexplainable. We often shake our heads in disbelief when we hear something "newsworthy" like this. As we all know, when one makes a choice in life, one must must also live with the consequences. Is there something in Max's past that may explain (BUT NEVER EXCUSE) his actions? Maybe. Does Max deserve to lose his law enforcement career over this VERY bad decision? I cannot say for sure. Should he be disciplined? Absolutely. What he did was wrong. No one will dispute that point. However, all of the commentators on here who have posted angry comments judging Officer Wilson should take a step back and truly take a very close look in the mirror. Why is it that it seems as if the most critical and outspoken individuals are often those who are the most hypocritical of the bunch. We all have skeletons in our closet. You do and I do. For anyone to say otherwise is simply lying. The difference may be that you just haven't been caught, no one knows, or you simply had the fortune of not being a public figure having the news of your actions widely published in newspaper for all to judge. People...we are human beings. And, in my opinion, there is only one who has the right to judge each of us...and I think you know who that is. Those who angrily comment on here may just be doing so to make themselves feel superior or just make themselves feel better about themselves.

If the proper answer is for Max Wilson to lose his career, so be it. Let justice run its course. I think our community as a while would be better served if each of us were more SELF-CRITICAL, than CRITICAL of others. I believe I can safely presume that Max has suffered humiliation and his family has similarly suffered as well. The humiliation for Max may be well deserved to teach him a lesson. His family, on the other hand, are innocent victims. I am sure the officers of the Wheaton Police departments suffered as well.

Simply put, why not critically judge yourself. Let's all try to be a better people. If we all did this, we wouldn't have to worry about others judging others. I am sure many out there reading my posting will want to respond with angry comments. To you I say, "How does it feel to be perfect? Because you must be."

Good luck to you Max and your family. I hope you have learned from your mistake. Godspeed.

Sincerely,

Former WCHS teammate

I believe that this is not the first incident... he's probably shoplifted at least 100 times before getting caught this one time. Personally, I hope his careeer is over with. I don't buy the mental illness angle either.... and if he is mentally ill, wtf is he doing out there in a police job? we have enough mentally ill and mentally challenged cops. we don't need more.

Obviously the stress of his job and being underpaid caused him to become overstressed and caused this error in judgement. The police work has disabled him, he should be put on full disability pension.
