I just wanted to compliment Trevor Warner on a "fair and balanced" account of what transpired at the PPAC meeting last Wednesday night.
I lost my temper when Dr. Parrott, who was chairing the meeting as head of the PPAC Board, began to shout me down before I'd finished my question, shouting "that's not true, that's not true, that's not true." I was, quite frankly, taken aback by this lapse of decorum and rules of order, and I raised my voice and used the "d-word," saying "damn" in an audience of adults. That set a few of them into hysterics, calling for the mike to be ripped from my hands because of the affront to public decency. Anyway, good job of capturing the essence of that meeting, Trevor. |

PUSD also had an open meeting regarding facilities including the possible purchase and use of the PPAC on May 12th, and had a more specific meeting planned for June 23rd but cancelled it when the PPAC stated they wanted to explore other options. These meetings were posted in advance and open to the public. People only see and hear what they want to see and hear. |

I love the PPAC. It's a great room, and, along with Sierra Nevada's Big Room, it has the best acoustics in the area. In my opinion, the PPAC needs to book bigger names that will sell out the place on a regular basis and get folks from Chico to come up the hill. Yes, bigger acts cost more money, but the PPAC can also charge $50 or more for legitimate bigger-named, CONTEMPORARY artists. As a promoter, PPAC must have someone who is on the pulse of who is touring 1,000-seat halls, who is hot, and who will sell tickets that can make the PPAC money. Schedules full of Juke Box Saturday Nights, the Limelighters, and some guy who plays John Denver songs will not do it. Long-running local productions such as Northern California Ballet, Paradise Symphony, and Butte College Theatre should, of course, still remain part of the PPAC schedule.

the monthly expenses do not seem to add up to anywhere close to 20,000. let alone 500,000 per year. what do the 2 full time employees do. they are lucky if they have 1 show a month.

Maybe they should go back to what they were doing when they first raised the funds for the community center. In recient years Ithe show prices have gone so high I can't afford to go to most shows and many of the past shows have not interested me. Perhaps school plays could be preformed there for a fee this would include the schools and encourage the children in the theater arts. Perhaps an adult play group would preform there charging a fee. Local bands could preform there for the exposure and a small fee could be charged the public. I don't have much money but I would be willing to donate a small amount to keep the doors open. The problem is their donations start at $100. If everyone on the ridge gave as little as $10 think of how much money they would raise and some of us might be willing to donate more than once a year.
