I have recently been informed by a co-worker that her six year old son has to walk down a long road to stand at a stop sign to wait for the bus, because the buses only run in one direction, this isn't accurate everyone in Holmes county knows that the buses go in ALL directions up and down streets and all around to pick up the children. My friend called the school board and all they could do is transfer to the bus driver who then told her the bus routes are all in one direction, my friend explained her situation, how she was afraid for her son in this day and time to walk in town by himself as there is no one to walk with him, she was hung up on! Does anyone else have this problem??

Yes, concerned mother, some county bus drivers take it upon themselves to stay on paved roads and let the childern walk the dirt roads. It's not right and I think someone should let the powers in charge know of these things. If I had a child in school, I would be at every meeting the school board has, and let them know how I felt. If you don't let them know about these things the drivers will continue to do their thing. Let the board members know!

Yes, I had that problem before. My children had to walk down a dirt road about a half a mile. I did call and talk to the bus driver and she told me that she had run over a dog on that dirt road and she had to pay for the dog. and she would not be going down that dirt road any more. when l called the school board told me that they was not enough kids. Yes,l do pay taxes.

not enough kids is not an excuse! if he/she were older, say 14 to 16-17 mabey but under 12 no .if the owners of dogs let them run lose then the owner is responsable for the dog ,not the bus driver!if anything should happen to the little one
how would you feel ,'if i had just went down and pick he/she up' dog or no dog?

The child in question stays for an hour at a grandparents house who isn't able to get around to easy. The mother has to work early shifts and cannot always take him to school, this has Nothing to do with MONEY it has to do with CHILD SAFETY!!!

Yes, everyone wants something for free. I am not responsible for your kid getting to school. I have transported neighbors' children. However, if you are entitled to the service demand it. You can't be refused.

nancy, nothing is free, everyone pays taxes, vehicle tags, property taxes, fuel taxes, sales tax, all for a portion for school. You drive a school bus, your responsibility is to pick up kids when they stand beside the road nearest thier home. If you have kids they would probablely get on the bus at your house, you need to think about other kids and do the same for them. Think about it!

That is the point. If others are picked up by going down a narrow lane or whatever the question is, then she is entitled to it. If she is entitled to home pickup according to the current policies, fine, demand it. If not suck it up, and don't expect something for free. I assume there are others in the same situation. If the bus driver is violating policy, then handle the situation. Bus drivers have supervisors, so contact someone.

There have been problems with bus routes for years. Always been a route crossing problem. Too many schools has something to do with the problem plus the fact that you can live next door to Bethlehem and still go to Bonifay. If that is what you want then fine. Go to the school of your choice. But getting them there is up to that parent. Don't know if this is a situation of a school bus not being able to make it in certain areas. No room to turn around is a problem in some areas. Maybe this can be resolved. Good luck!

l pay for all different kinds if taxes. and l work. l live down a dirt road.rhat comes off a main road. and l talk to several different people and they came out to look. and told me that they would have to get back with me. l had to end up calling them least 6 times before they would talk to me. and the answer was it would take an extra 10 min to do that .and they said to many other children would have to be at their bus stop earlier. so l did not press the issue.cause my childern has to be at the bus stop at 6;35 A.M.

Gil Anderson is the one to contact. I can't say that he will taek care of the problem. Buses overlap all over the county. They have fixed the problem some but it's still an issue. I think the problem is deeper that just one or two routes and adjusting some time here and there. That would fix a situation but not the overall problem. That would take severe changes that the supt. and board would never do. Go out there on a Friday about 11. You will probably be busting up their fish fry. Go to the bus barn across from the main office.

Bus routes were addressed about 4 years ago. The public were up in arms, and it was dropped. So, I guess we contine to pay taxes and keep 4 high schools open.

Daily Horoscope for December 28

Aries

The prospect of travel really appeals to you today, especially if you don't have any holidays booked for the foreseeable future. So be careful if you're out shopping and you happen to walk past a travel agent's, because almost before you know it you could be sitting in there waving your credit card around and consulting your diary for the best day to take off for the wide blue yonder.
