I believe they used the jaws of life to cut the top of the car off to get her out. Anyone got updates?

Gut reaction? Old lady not paying attention to slower vehicle pulling into traffic. It's possible that this wasn't the case, but statistics indicate that I'll be right.

My Wife was 2 cars behind this Lady and she said the truck just pulled right out in front of her and she didn't have any time to react. The Lady was 62 and in my book that is not an Old Lady.

The old lady did not have any time to properly react to the young man's traffic violation

This punk pulled out in front of her AND he was pulling something in tow! I don't know how much more obvious as to whose responsibility it can be, ShipUPride. This guy almost killed someone and could have been more injured due to how busy that road gets early in the morning. He better hope she pulls out of this.

Depending on what kind and color of car she was driving, he may not have seen her. I make that same left turn every morning, and I have to pull almost into the lane she was in to see if a car is coming. Of course, I'm in a car so I'm closer to the ground, but there are guardrails along Letterkenny Road that block my line of vision; the tree limbs directly above the guardrail could block a truck's line of vision. Sure hope they both are OK.

George, I agree with you. That intersection is very, very dangerous. You are right about the guard rails blocking the line of sight. When coming from that direction, I almost have to pull the whole way out onto the road to see if anything is coming. I go through this intersection traveling on Letterkenny Road often, and I always slow way down knowing how dangerous it is. Looks as if this guy wasn't from around here. He probably didn't know that people go much faster than the posted limit on that road. Why can't people just slow down? Speed is always a big factor in the severity of these injuries. That's why I slow down on these crazy local roads. I don't care if someone wants to ride my tail. I don't go any faster than I want to. It's best to drive defensively. The left hand turn is probably the most dangerous maneuver to make while driving. I try to plan my routes that I don't have to make left hand turns.

This report makes it sound like she went and ran into him. The picture I saw from an eye witness the truck was on top of her car. I think somebody is trying to cover up Letterkenny's mistake but that's just my sneaky suspension.

I agree those guard rails are way to close the road there! You can't see squat when you're in car without pulling in the intersection.Still no excuse for the truck driver to pull out,he should've been able to see!Hope all involved are OK!

I have pulled out of that intersection many times with dump trucks. You can not see. there is a tree and a bunch of shrubbery blocking your view. Not only that but in a large truck the hood is longer and the driver sits futher back from the front bumper then you would in a passenger car

I agree... the fella should have used better judgment when pulling onto Letterkenny Rd. But I will make this statement and raise a very important question for discussion... I see the Franklin Fire Company responded to the scene and were able to remove the victim from the vehicle and flew her out via helicopter. But since this accident was 150 yards east of Salem road and closer to Letterkenny fire dept. Why weren't they dispatched to assist in an accident requiring life flight as a precaution? Less than 1 mile from the accident scene as I drive by there everyday on my way to work. The public deserves to have the fastest response available and the patient should always be the main concern of any emergency responder or fire command official. If they can be on scene faster than anyone else and require all their members to be e.m.t. certified than that's who I want to respond for me if necessary. The closest firefighters/emt personnel should always be dispatched. Can you tell me why? I asked someone I know and they said they were not allowed to respond unless special request is issued.... why not special request them then???

They take the trucks out in the yard every morning at 8:30 and check the lights and sirens, but the trucks don't move off of the property very often (at least between 0630 - 1600 hours).

Do either of you know the word Protocol? This was Franklin Fire Hall turf so to say. They were the first responders. In other words they got the 911 call. The only way for the LKY Firemen to get involved was if Franklin ask for their help. They did not.

What's wrong with that? Maybe if both fire departments showed up and peed on a fire, they'd manage to put it out faster!

Well, this was a car accident...not a fire. The point of the matter is that no one died in this accident. I don't think that we should blame one fire department or the other. They don't decide what incidents they run on. I don't think anyone should blame or point fingers to them.

Maybe this isn't a matter of pointing fault but one of asking why? There have been several accidents in that area in the past. Once in a while the Depot station is requested but not often. What about when the two teenagers died in that area? Nobody requested the Depot on that one. It is a shame the public suffers when it comes down to a matter of who lets others play in their sandbox.
