Florida Legislature: House, Senate committees advance bill that...

Full story: South Florida Sun-Sentinel

Florida phone rates could be on the rise in the not-too-distant future. In a potential victory for telecommunications giants, legislators are moving to deregulate land-line phone service, allowing carriers to raise rates 10 percent a year with no state oversight.

Zapping it to the public again like AT&T is not rich enough. Sure give them the increase under the condition that they move all their service reps both landline, internet, cellular etc back to the USA. I am dam sick and tired to talking to India and that part of the world.

When I call and get someone in India etc I DEMAND to be transferred back to a US based rep. In fact I do this with every company I deal with.

Folks stand up to the state officials they have AT&T in their back pockets. Let's face it they charge you 5-7 bucks per month for caller Id and it only costs AT&T 4 cents, yes 4 cents to provide the service! I would love that profit margin. Yes, I am a reitred manager of AT&T and know the profit margins. Time folks revolted. Vote the bums out in Tallhassee!!!!

If they want to get greedy, then let them. There are other options available now, and those of us with brains will vote with our wallets.

All the posturing aside, isn't that just what we need right now? The Governor cites "consumer concerns". CONCERNS?! You're damn right we have "concerns"! Just once could our elected officials act on something in a way that DOESN'T stick it to us in the pocket book? Just leave us the heck alone, and govern for a change. We're friggin' over it!

How do consumers have a misconception that our phone bills will be higher when your trying to pass a 10 percent increase in fees?
I was never the best at math but I do believe I am having a misconception about my misconception.

I already have. Who needs a land line when I can take my cell wherever I go? Try that with a land line. I don't get sales calls on my cell either. Let 'em hang themselves!

Land lines will be what horse and buggies were to cars.
The seniors will suffer the most and that is just plain wrong. I can't figure out what telcom corporations possibly think they can gain by decreasing their market share with rate increases. I know plenty of folks on the edge of dumping their land lines and this will undoubtedly be the proverbial straw that breaks that camel's back.

Eleanor Sobel is a bought and paid for SKANK of the highest order.

Nan Rich is a bit of a surprise, however, because I believe the elitist Ms. Rich once had a conscience.

Look at their campaign contributors http:/browardsoe.org and you will see telcom companies

You're an idiot to even bother to sign up for Caller ID and pay that kind of money for it in the first place!

Of course the government will OK an increase in hard-line phone services. That's because the state and federal tax revenue goes up as phone rates do. The good news: It's making less and less sense to even have a hard line.

What a great way to see who can be bought at the right price. Lobbyists=BAD, it doesn't get much clearer than that.

The people you vote in office should do the right thing, they definitely do not need to hear anything from lobbyists.

Yep, it's time to dump the land line. Heck, work pays for the other two lines. We only kept the land line for backup. Cell phones have long since become our primary.

Gotta love a competitive market. People can vote with dollars...Land line price hikes will lose here.
