We really need some kind of quick clinic for those things that may not be able to wait till morning or (on a weekend) Monday morning, but are not real emergencies. Other cities and towns have them.

Emergency Room means just that. As some others stated too many using it instead of a doctor's office visit. Of course everyone's idea of emergency is different. Don't clean & bandage it yourself, you can't stand the sight of blood. Wow!!!
Used to be trips to the E.R. really were for just that emergencies.

more and more people are going to the ER because their family dr will not take payments . I could set and type you an entire list of dr & Dentist who do not take payments.
If you go to the ER you can set up a payment plan and or if your income is low enough you can get on the charity program. Some Dr take the Charity program but not all of them do.

Why not do an urgent care ? Its not an ER Ship used to have one they may still have it I dont know, I moved fromt he area. But when I was living there if you had a nasty cold, flu symptons etc this is where you could go. I was always in and out in no time.

Just had this experiance last week, my sinus was acting up been acting up for a few weeks. I called the Dr to get an appointment and was told they coudlnt see me for 2 weeks. My face is swollon over the counter meds are not working and you want me to wait 2 weeks to see a dr. I was told to either wait for my appointment or go to the ER. So it may not be just patients wanting to run to the ER it could very well be there family dr office telling if you cant wait for your appointment that may be in 2-3 weeks then go to the ER .

More people, more pregnant women, more vehicle accidents more idiots blowing off their thumbs with dynamite, more contusion injuries from copper thieves cutting themselves, etc.= more emergemcy room visits, one would think.:0)

Too many readers jump to conclusions about why people use the ER. One reason that I have experienced - doctors who say "if it's not better tomorrow, go to the ER". Many ER users probably DO have family physicians who do not treat in their offices - rather - make "referral".

Unfortunately there are variences in types of emergencies. A UTI can come on suddenly and be very painful (and is common in pregnant women and diabetics) There are special pain relievers OTC but pregnant women shouldn't take them and regardless UTIs need antibiotics. If one starts feeling the pain on Fri @ 7pm, it's not good to wait until Monday @7am and HOPE you get a DR's appt.
This is just one example of many that could be cared for by an urgent care facility.

Too many people go to the Emergency Room who should not go there. It's an EMERGENCY Room, not a replacement for your family doctor; or worse yet, those who have no family doctor! And please don't take the whole family along, and crowd the waiting room!

If anybody from my family goes to the ER it's because they are extremely ill or have a malformed body part. A lot of people today don't know about symptomatic treatment, they expect to get a pill from their doctor and be cured immediately. Many doctors today are understaffed and therefore must decide who to see and who to defer to the ER. It's all part of the health care crisis in this country. Yes, we could use an urgent care facility in this area, however, trying to find good doctors who expect minimal pay to run one is not an easy task. I know a few docs around here I would not let touch me if I were near death and no other doc was available to treat me.

I suppose that you never had an illness or injury that wasn't exactly life threatening and try to get a doctors appointment with your family doctor..

They usually give you an appointment a week to ten days and offer advice "if you feel you can't wait, go to the emergency room for help"!

To those saying that the ER should only be for life threatening injury's and illnesses -- get a dose of reality!

The Hospitals and DR'S know of this situation and SOP, they should use some of their profits to enlarge and care for the public.

Leaving the gates open for foreign nationals to come here to live without documentation leads to all kinds of problems we are just seeing the tip of the iceburg at this point. What are these people's medical history? What diseases do they have? No one has a clue until they are run through a battery of tests to find out.
Dieases that were long eradicated in the U.S. are now on the rise again. Is this fair to be a American Citizen to have someone from a foreign country come here and get top-notch care and walk away with out paying a cent, while we wait in line for hours and have the costs increased due to those who don't pay? Meanwhile we and our families are being exposed to unknown illnesses?
Our government is not doing it's sworn job to protect it's citizens!

It sounds like the system worked. The triage nurse found no life threatening indications.
Some Doctors do tell patients to go to the emergency room. Other Dr. staffs don't even make a recommendation, They offer no assistance whatsoever. Some are forced to go to the ER when specialists won't see them for 6 to 8 weeks.
National healthcare will make the present problem look like utopia.

That's right -- wait till there is "official rationing" then see what the wait is!

Typical Liberal pap! No one blames EVERYTHING on illegal aliens. Everything, airhead, means 100% doesn't it? So, that's not logical. Only a Leftist Liberal burnt out Hippie whose drug damaged grey matter leaps to such an absurd conclusion. If you believe EVERYTHING is the fault of illegal aliens, then you betray your Liberal peers who blame President Bush for everything.

Ha Ha! You're funny!

Let me try...

Nobody blames EVERYTHING on Bush! Everything, airhead, means 100% doesn't it? So, that's not logical. Only a right-wing brain-dead Reactionary with borderline mental retardation leaps to such an absurd conclusion.
