Why aren't these being moved by railroad instead of cloggin up our roads ? Both plants are accessible to rail - Fairless Hills has tracks, and there are a lot of railroad lines out at Ebensburg as well, so it is practical.

Isn't anyone else interested that these renewable energy technologies are being developed in PA by a Spanish company using our own steel plants?
How ridiculous is it that a state still recovering from the disappearance of its steel industry can't see the irony here.
Our state and our country need fresh leadership, fast! Since McCain apparently has invested our energy future solely in offshore drilling, I can only hope Obama stays good to his word and pushes for the reemergence of the U.S. as a world leader in innovation and innovation regarding renewable energy and other technologies.

Obama will not push anything other than high taxes. All he will do is punish successful businesses with high taxes.

Are you saying that because of personal experience and/or past wisdom, or are you saying it because you can't think for yourself and believe the mantra that "all democrats do is raise taxes"?

If you consider removing the subsidies received by oil companies as "punishing" them, then I guess you are right. Otherwise, yours is another uneducated comment our bloated Federal government loves to hear.

OS:
You insult me and probably most of the others on this blog with your insipid comments. You automatically assume everyone is uneducated. I happen to have earned several college degrees.

I draw conclusions and interpretations based not solely on education, but also on life experiences. This allows me to elucidate my opinions.

I grew up poor and worked my tail off to get where I am. I also paid for all of my education on my own (in fact, it was 15 years after college when I made my final loan payment).

Obama thinks raising teacher's salaries will fix education. I believe teacher's salaries should be based on performance. If a teacher does well, as measured by the students doing well, he/she should get paid more. Obama just wants to pay all teachers more, no matter how abysmal their students may be doing.

Obama also wants union labor to lift up the middle class. Yet the unionized US automakers are having record layoffs and losses, while Toyota has been hiring tens of thousands of non-union American automobile workers.

Taxing our businesses more will drive more layoffs and probably force more of our companies to outsource to foreign entities.

Go back and look at Jimmy Carter's economic ideas during the 70s. Many of Obama's are the same - they have just been "updated." We all know what kind of economy we had under Carter (huge interest rates, oil shortages, etc.).

And please never assume someone is not as educated as you, or even worse - uneducated, just because they hold a contradictory opinion.

Sorry you feel insulted, but I wasn't assuming you were uneducated because you hold a contradictory opinion, but because your post had no substance and was simply ignorant. I decided to ask you how you formulated your viewpoint and you have responded.

From your response, it doesn't appear that you have attempted to learn anything on your own about Obama's positions, but are regurgitating what you've heard from others. Your positions are inaccurate and aren't worthy of a counterargument.

As for your several college degrees, Mark Twain said it better than I--
“I never let my learning get in the way of my education.”

Contrare.

There you go making assumptions again. I have learned a lot about Obama's positions. I have read most of them on his website. They have a lot of fluff, no real information on how he will pay for it all (esp. his healthcare ideas), and like I already stated many of his energy policies smack of Carter.

If you enjoy paying more of the money you have earned to the federal government, Obama is definitely your man.

Looks like we will have to "agree to disagree."

It is not practical and here's why. The dimensions of what you can move on the rail infrastructure in eastern pa do not provide enough clearance around ridges, under overpasses, track signals etc. True the trains can easily handle the weight but you'd never get it out of Fairless hills.

From what I gather the longest non hinged rail car is roughly 72.5 feet and those are limited to their use due to their size. The picture doesn't do a great job of showing the length of the tubes but for a police escort its going to be more than 53 feet. My guess would be more in the range of between 100 and 150 ft long per segment from what I can find on the manufacturer's website.

The cylinders noted are used to hold compressed natural gas or other high pressure items for transit. Much like large ocean-going tanker ships that transport Liquified Natural Gas from wells located in Qatar or The United Arab Emirates across the Atlantic to offloading terminals in Louisiana and elsewhere.
