Rock 'em, sock 'em TV providers

I have had both Comcast and AT&T Uverse. While Comcast service and features were good, AT&T's Uverse is much better by far! Better quality picture, more options, faster speeds on my internet. Yes, there are still some glitches, but I'd rate AT&T at a 9/10 right now, once they get all the bugs worked out it will be no contest!

I believe AT&T is in the process of rolling out the capability to record at least two different HD streams within a given household.
There are a couple of great sites for information on Uverse: http://www.dslreports.com/forum/uverse http://www.uverseusers.com/component/option,c... U-talk Peer-to-Peer Forums - U-talk Peer-to-Peer Forums There are people who have had their fair share of issues with Uverse, but I have started to see many more glowing reviews of late. I am not a shill for AT&T, and do not have Uverse. I am anxiously awaiting its availability in the city-proper so I can finally get rid of the price increase hungry, poor-service Comcast. |

I wish I had the money Comcast has spent on sending me flyers over the past few years. Process color printing on glossy card stock. That's some expensive printing. Some weeks I'll get a mailing every other day.

I had Comcast and the price I had to pay a month is out of control. I now have U-verse and the picture quailty is great, it is user friendly. I can go on-line and set my DVR to record a movie or an event with-out being at home. The price I pay for U-verse is great. I LOVE IT!!!!!

Until AT&T offers Comcast Sports Net in HD, there is no reason for me to change.

I had Comcast and switched to AT&T. The only complaint that I have with AT&T is the Weather Channel. With Comcast you get the local weather on the eights with the local radar. AT&T gives you the same weather you see in a hotel. I really don't care about the weather in California. I want to know what is happening here.

Ease of DVR programming and OnDemand, which is the bomb!!!
Also, when it comes to the internet...the faster, the better...so for me, it's Comcast, all the way!!! |

The only things I'm unhappy about with Comcast are the long waits for repair service and the fact that the new digital phone service is interrupted during power outages.
Before we got the "Triple Play" our old Comcast digital phone service did not go out with the power. They should have improved that interface and left it alone. Comcast needs to do something about both, but mainly the phone service - if you don't have a cell phone - you have no emergency communication. Even though they are not classified as a "Utility", they must remember they are providing a regulated utility type of service with their phone service. Been with Comcast since they bought out AT&T and they've always treated the phone service as a poor relation. |

With all this cable competition, why aren't the prices going down? Basic cable service is at least $60 a month. Put in a movie channel and you start pushing $100 a month. That is ridiculous. If cable was $40 a month I would get it, but that price is never coming, so I'm never getting cable.

I can't wait for AT&T to get their bugs worked out, COMCAST's "service" is beyond appalling. We've had a problem with COMCAST for over a month now; they came onto our property - where the 'pedestal' is that serves our home, and connected another property to that pedestal. Despite the pedestal being out of easement [i.e., on private property] and being told such, COMCAST dug up a flower-bed and caused no less than 15 red, orange and yellow flags to be placed - with corresponding spray-paint, all over the front parkway, main and side lawn of our home leading all the way up from the pedestal to the front of our home. Bear in mind that this was all done to provide 'service' to someone elses property - even though no easement/right for COMAST to do so exists. In fact, when they did this a few years ago for another property - laying cable {unmarked, un-flagged, without our permission and without so much as a by your leave} all the way on the block behind us, the local municipality confirmed to them that their cable pedestal was 'out of easement.'
As the owner of a property with a mortgage I'm obligated NOT to allow easements, encumbrances or hazards to be introduced onto my property. I found the 125 feet of cable that COMCAST left laying out along the side lawn of our home by tripping over it one night when I went out after dusk to water a flower-bed. COMCAST operates like they're a monopoly and above the law, hey, wiat a minute, they are a monopoly. Bring it on AT&T, where do I sign up? |

Try www.weather.com and/or www.tribune.com - either of which provide local weather, with former you can type in your zip code. Besides which, I find the weather channel's local weather to be well off in it's Chicago area forecasting. |

Does anyone know if AT&T's DVR works well? I've used it alot since I got it for Comcast in April and don't want to give it up.

I actually have U-verse and for several of the posts I would like to provide some clarity...
U-BAR allows me to program what local weather I want to view and it delivers. Faster Internet? Are you kidding? Unless you are a Peer-2-Peer bandwidth hog how much do you need? I have up to 10mb downstream and up to 1.5mb upstream. Comcast doesn't even have a public offer for uploads that are that fast. The amount of on-demand movies will leave you breathless. If you subscribe to movie channels, they provide free on-demand movies and extras. Yes it is new but it does indeed have the platform to be so much more...I love it. |

One thing to be cautious about is that AT&T is not legally classified as a cable company, but as an information service device, so they do not fall under the regulations that govern cable companies, particularly about customer privacy.
The last time I read the AT&T U-Verse terms of service, it warned me that AT&T logs every button you push and will sell to anyone they please a full list of everything you've ever done sitting in front of the television. A cable company is prohibited by law from betraying their customers for profit like this. I'm enough of a paranoid nutjob, that sort of thing is a deal breaker for me. |

Price comparison would be very helpful. Keep analyzing this issue it impacts everyone. Thanks for a great beginning.

Rockford just bacame Comcast terrritory and it's the only game in town. Insight had been our only provider and was darn good at it. Since the take over by Comcast, service has been poor, and we have experienced issues with networking computers in the home; poor signals or none at all. Comcast has a bad reputation and is holding up to that in our area. Bring back Insight and more power to AT&T, though doubtful that Rockford would be viewed as a big enough market to get two competitive companies.

I LOVE my ATT Uverse...and there DVR lets you record 4 shows at once, where Comcast only allows you two. I hated Comcast customer service, and the prices. |

After six weeks "comparing" the services this piece offers no insight other than the wishy-washy conclusion that both services have their respective merits.
Thanks for nothing. The author writes, "In short, Comcast edges out AT&T in breadth of TV programming." Really? In what way? I would expect a proper comparison to explain. The only difference mentioned by the author is the extra scene for the "Dark Knight," and "Get Smart." Is that it? If so, it's not worth mentioning. Also, how about a price comparison for similar programing? Calling them "similar" is an inexcusable oversimplification. |
