"Christensen, 42, has claimed he is a hunter."
So? What does he hunt with--a bow? He can't lawfully own firearms anywhere in the U.S. He can 't use them to hunt or even touch them in Illinois. He is a convicted domestic abuser.

Hey, as a hunter I think its crazy that I can't own 30, 40, 70 guns, and purchase them from gun shows with no background check or waiting period. I mean, who are you to tell me that I can't have an Uzi submachine gun, an AK-47 assault rifle, or a fully automatic .40 caliber jeep mounted aerial assualt gun? Huh? who do these people think they are? Well, sure I don't kill possum or squirrel with them, and they have no good reason to exist in the United States other than to kill, but what the f***?? these are my guns!!

Uzi submachine guns and fully automatic weapons are illegal, and you know that. The guy was convicted of domestic battery, and he lost his FOID card, so he must give up the guns. I have at least 10 guns, and some I never even shoot. I purchased three 22 rifles one day at the same time, but I had to wait 24 hours to pick them up. You gun haters are always trying to take the gun rights of us law abiding citizens, and I absoulutely hate you for it.

Quite often, these very people, are elected to public office.

This is the 3rd non-story in a row!!! First, the plane landing on the golf course, then the golfer killing the bird, now some guy without a FOID card. Oh well. "Next, in the news: Southwest side boy confronted by police for breaking beer bottles in the street."
Waste of time.
Anyway folks, get real. It's not super out the question for a gun enthusiast to have 30 or 40 guns. There are quit a few families that have "A" gun, or two guns, or five. Chances are, there's a few people who own guns living on your block! No matter what part of the city or suburbs you live in.
Non-story Tribune. Where's the real news? Like...what's Ted Kennedy doing right now?

Yeah the Tribune like most papers is selling non storiens and peddling sensationalism. How much cr@p can they shove down our throats trying to sell advertising?

Okay, let's get this straight. He beat his wife (family member), lost his right to own a gun. I don't get the attacks.
It was illegal for him to own the guns, period. But the cops need to give him back any black powder guns he owned. Course I have never seen a fully automatic Kentucky Rifle.
Send him to jail. But gun ownership is protected by both the US Constitution and also many State Constitutions.

okay wrote: <quoted text> As an admitted gun hater I don't begrudge you the right to own a gun however I must ask, why would a person need that many guns? It's not a need as much of a desire. Full autos are fun to shoot, and after going through the necessary legal steps, why be told no? The feds put the "barriers" to weed out any individuals who might show signs of instability. Again; these restrictions just end up hurting the law-abiding, and cater up a nice fence to allow the law-dodging weed out opposition to their "practices" of drug dealing and whatnot. Allow me to save you time: "They're dangerous and have no place in a society" Look up statistics on full auto gun crimes. Minimal.

I'm with okay from Homewood. I don't HATE guns and I certainly don't want to deny anyone their right to own a gun, assuming mental health is stable and no criminal background and all. I just don't get why a person needs so many. I've heard things like "it's like collecting cars". Sorry. I don't buy that. I think there's something very scary and very wrong about a person keeping an arsenol in their home.

It kind of works like this. I was given a double barrel shotgun that belonged to my great grandfather, and it is in need of repair. The gun can't be fixed due to lack of parts. I have several other old guns, a single shot saddle rifle, and a semi auto shotgun that belonged to my uncle. I purchased three 22 rifles, semi auto, a lever action, and a pump for me and my two boys to shoot. The amunition is cheap, and they get to experience the different types of rifles. I purchased a 38 pistol for self defense, a 45 semi auto pistol for pleasure, and a 22 semi auto target pistol. I never sell my guns, so I end up with more than I really need. The boys and I enjoy plinking, deer hunting out of state, and a little bird hunting, and trap shooting. We all have FOID cards, no mental problems, the guns are locked in a gun safe, and both kids have been to NRA gun saftey school. Children under 18 can't buy guns, so I bought the guns for our use. Why would this be a problem to anybody? We support several wildlife programs and even purchased and released 75 pheasants and 50 quail last year. We enjoy the outdoors, national parks, and shooting sports.

As far as fully automatic weapons are concerned, I have never even seen one except in a museum. I have been around guns for 35 years and have never met anybody that has one. They can be purchased, in certain states, (not IL) with a special permit that has to be signed by county sherrif or police chief, a special background check, a tax paid, and the weapon can't be sold or left to another person without another permit issued. The guns waste amunition, and I simply don't have any need or desire to have one. The laws are very tight on these guns, as they should be, and if someone can get a permit, the gun has to be ordered because they are not stocked by dealers. These types of guns are really a non issue as there are so few in private ownership.

Very strict.
