Why are people protesting at Petland every other Saturday since January? They sell sick dogs. No one should have to pay a $1000 for a sick dog and then have to spend double that on vet bills! We have had plenty of people stop to tell use they have purchased a sick dog. Some people do not have enough money to even buy the dog, so the store will put them on a payment plan. What happens when the dog gets sick and they can’t afford the vet bills? These spontaneous purchases end up resulting in unwanted dogs and the local shelters bear the burden. Why is important to do some research before you buy a dog from a pet store? There are no laws to protect consumers and your health warranty is worthless. Here are some examples of dogs sold at this store.(source: PetShopPuppies.org ): 1)Yorkshire Terrier Chihuahua. Parasites, herinia, cryptorchid. The inspection report from this Breeder in Ohio, stated there was excretes and food waste was not removed form enclosures and excessive accumulation was found under the primary enclosures. Missing records of acquisitions and dispositions of dogs. 2) English Springer Spaniel. Phobias and aggression. The inspection report from this breeder in Missouri (Puppy Mill Capital) stated the shelter was missing wind/rain breaks at entrance, clean dry bedding material. The outdoor temperature was 47 dg F and 10 outdoor enclosures did not have any or very little bedding material. 3) Havenese. Kennel cough and parasites. The breeder in Missour had 41-62 adult dogs!!! 4)Yorkshire Terrier. Grade 4 luxating patellas in both knees, required surgery. The report from this breeder in Missouri stated four adult dogs needed to be evaluated by the attending veterinarian and written documentation maintained at the facility. Pinky had an irritated eye that was excessively blood shot. Chelsea had green goopy matter in both eyes. Hope the Cocker has one yet that was extremely enlarged and excessively red. Brandi had an enlarged eye duct. There is one exterior raised run off of the first shelter building that has broken protruding wires where the bottom panel connects to the side panel which needs to be replaced and maintained to prevent injury to the contained animals. Inventory 98 adult dogs!!!! This is a puppy mill! 5)German Shepherd. This dog was reported healthy, but the breeder in Kansas had 225 dogs! The inspection report was very long with items ranging from excessive fecal matter green in color, no bedding with cold temperatures, and cages needing many repairs. A large breed puppy in cage 27”x21” for the total of 567” of floor space. The puppy needs a minimum of 862”. 6)Cavalier King Charles. Upper respirator infection, repaired hernia. This breeder was in Oklahoma. 7)Sliky Terrier. Kennel cough, sleeps all the time, won’t eat or drink, heavy weezing. This breeder was in Arkansas. Delivered by Hunte! Google Hunte Corporation. 8)Chihuahua. Bloody stools when purchased. This breeder is in Arkansas and appears to be unlicensed. 9)Cocker Spaniel. No problems noted. This breeder is in Missouri with 36-64 dogs.

I bought a dog at Petland in Westland over a year ago and have not had any problems. She is a great dog. I guess if you have a problem with Petland then you shouldn't go there.

I am sure some of the dogs are healthy, but there are two messages here: Buyer Beware and Stop Puppy Mills. Although you may have purchased a healthy dog, do you really want to support a business that works with Puppy Mills? We have to think about all purchases these days. Just want people to do their homework and not trust a store because they seem nice or it is convenient. Also your dog may seem healthy now, but may have genetic problems you are unaware of. Some things show up down the road.

Yes I would buy from from them again. A dog is a dog no matter where it comes from. You make your choice and I'll make mine.

Anyone who buys from a pet store is promoting puppy mills. Talk to a reputable breeder and you will see they would never deal with a pet store for their "pets" whom they have invested a lot of time and energy in. Scott you prove that ignorance is bliss, good luck with that. Your purchase from petland only perpetuates breeding dogs kept in cages 24/7, bred every heat, receive little or no vet care all for the sake of the pet store to make money. This should be classified as animal abuse. Thanks for participating in it.

p.s. scott, may you hit the jackpot with your next dog from petland. Upper respiratory infection, luxating patellas, giardia, and throw in a little parvo for a grand finale.

If you have a problem with it then that is fine but DON'T try to tell me what I should do or believe. Just because it is important to you does not mean that it is important to someone else.

Scott you will not piss me off. People who refuse to acknowledge the misery their choices have on the world, are extremely selfish. I cannot see things from your perspective because I cannot get my head that far up my a$$. You obviously have more money than brains since you were willing to pay 10 times what the pet store paid for the dog. Unfortunately there are too many people who do not get a healthy dog from Petland.

Scott honey, but you DO care what we think, you keep replying to the posts. Now come clean, honey, you wouldn't be posting here on this topic unless you had a stake in it. What is your relationship to the pet store? It's ok, we understand. We all make mistakes.

It was about getting the word out regarding pet stores and their puppy mill link. NO reputable breeder would sell their puppies through a pet store. If they're reputable they have a code of ethics of which one is not selling to pet stores. Why? because you want to make sure the puppies you have spent blood sweat and tears bringing into this world go to a good home who will value them appropriately. All you have to do to see for yourself is trace the "pedigree" paper back to the breeder. You will discover the puppy mill they came from. The people at today's protest are educated in this subject. They are former pet store employees, former vet techs who have been exposed to the sick dogs that come from the pet stores, people who have actually visited the puppy mills and dog auctions. We have done our homework of know of what we speak. Google "puppy mills" and see what happens. Hunte corporate is a large broker who sells to local pet stores. Amish ALSO sell to pet stores. They are located in Ohio, Indiana, and Pennsylvania. Another local pet store gets their puppies from Amish in Shipshawanee, IN. Don't we all know it's Amish territory??? Just because the breeder is USDA does not mean it is NOT a puppy mill. They have to be USDA licensed to sell to the pet stores.
