I've never liked the products offered by Mervyn's and have only been in one of their stores a couple of times over the last 20 years. Its not surprising they are having trouble. If you don't offer what the buying public wants at a reasonable price you won't be "open, open, open" very long.

Mervyn's panders to all the illegal aliens here in So. Cal. Mervyn's - you suck.

Look at the clothes in the Men/Boy's section - they look like gangster clothes?

Just another company destroyed by the asset strippers of private capital.

The private capital investors sold all of the property of Mervyn's and kept the proceeds. This left the company with high guaranteed rent to pay to the new property owners which made it more difficult for Mervyn's to make money.

I love Mervyn's. Their prices are reasonable and the toddler's clothes are cute. I've shopped at Target and they don't have the wide selection of toddler clothes like Mervyn's does.

All stores panders to illegals if the illegals are allowed to stay here. You think other stores like Walmart and Target card people at the door?

I used to shop and buy at Mervyn's regularly but not so much any more. In the last year or so I have noticed a big change in the quality and style of clothing and accessories and I no longer find things that I like despite the low prices. It will be a shame if consumers lose another retail option due to investor greed.

what "discount" store doesn't cater to illegals? That's the demographic their looking for, hell it's the majority in LA. If i was going to invest in retail mom and pop biz, all i would need to stock are diapers, budweiser, diapers, small Jesus statues, diapers, and Intl phone cards. Oh yeah, and spray paint and more diapers.

Speaking of catering to illegals, has anyone checked out Sears lately, especially the one in Downey?
