why ohio?

Why would anyone want to move from the Great State of Texas (Austin @ that) to Newark, OHIO?
Is there a Dell facility there are something?

I would rather be an Ohioian than a Texan. We don't have the Bush ranch here.
I get tired of people bad mouthing this state. It's not perfect but then no state is.

Ohio is worst off than you think:

Here are but a few reasons:

1) Ohio has the worst air in the nation.

2) EVERY single lake, pond and stream is polluted according to Ohio's Dept. of Natural Resources.

3) There is a good percentage of people in this state that are either missing teeth or have rotting teeth.

4) The housing values are low and are actually dropping.

5) Ohio has the 7th largest number of adults in the U.S. that DO NOT even have a high school degree.

6) Only 20% of ALL jobs in this state require a college degree.

7) There is trash everywhere, and I mean everywhere!

8) This state is full of old, beatup, oil burning cars -- cars that should be in a junk yard, not on the steets.

9) The school system is broken statewide.

10) The unemployment rate is very high and growing by thousands each and every month.(10,700 layoffs in December 2005, 2,700 last month).

11) Approximately 45 MORE people are leaving Ohio PER DAY
than are moving in.

12) Last year was the first year in Ohio's history that its population declined.

13) Ohio higher education costs are one of the highest in the nation.

14) More kids drop out of high school PER YEAR than are enrolled in Univ. of Ohio (+- 45,000 dropout each year).

15) So many of the people that live in Ohio could be on the old TV show, "The Beverly Hillbillies."

16) Payday loan companies are springing up everywhere -- what does that tell you about the wealth of the population.

17) Gov. Taft is crooked.

18) Ohio has the nation's 3rd largest population that smokes. It seems like everyone has taken up this dirty habit.

Definition of an Ohioan:

1) Extreme lack of any type of education,

2) Manual, non-thinking, non-skill job (if working at all),

3) Poor dental hygiene (missing teeth or blackened teeth),

4) Shack, mobile home or very low-value house which is in disrepair,

5) On some sort of government welfare program,

6) No checking or saving account – relies on payday loan companies,

7) Smokes or chews tobacco,

8) Unkempt, unshaven, dirty clothes,

9) Totally unaware of pollution around them: air, water and land,

10) Trashes out their yards with everything under the sun,

11) Has numerous old, out-of-date broken down cars,

12) Garbles the English language,

13) Never traveled beyond the hills behind their houses,

14) Feels that education is a waste of time for their kids,

15) High number of pregnancies under 16 years old,

16) High dropout rates in High School.

17) Dumping trash in every ravine in the woods or off the side of the roads,

18) Believes that God will take care of everything – cannot think for themselves.

19) Drinks alcohol (cheapest possible) like there is no tomorrow,

20) Sees nothing wrong with driving drunk or driving without car insurance,

21) Wears cheap stocking hats to cover unwashed hair,

22) Is very overweight or obese,

23) Thinks that Ohio has clean air and waterways,

24) Loves factories – even if they are toxic to their kids.

25) Smokes in cars that have kids in them (extremely selfish and self-centered).

26) Drives without putting seatbelts on their kids or themselves.

27) 29 of 88 of Ohio’s counties are considered “Appalachian Ohio?� These are the poor of the poor. Ohio has some of the worst school systems in the nation – with dropout rates approaching or exceeding 50%?

Wow, you should consider moving. We really don’t need you here anyhow. It would be one less "shit stain" in the state. Maybe you could move to one of the Virginia's. Newark must really be kicking your ass for you to feel that bad about YOURSELF!!! I think we also have counseling in Ohio to deal low self esteem, suicidal depressed freaks like yourself. You also may want to use this stuff we use in Ohio called Tooth-(singular, meaning only one)-paste, and in your case it sounds like that should be enough to do the job for you since the only tooth you have is "black"! Why are you ranting? I was thinking you were going to disagree, but logically. Your post does not show the class or intelligence of someone of wealth. Perhaps the poster was right?

Thanks Debby but no thanks! Really! I just can’t stand when liberals feel like it ok to completely bash the exact place that they live. These are the kind of people that live by the credo of "the grass is always greener on the other side". Its one thing to dislike something like a state but its another when you live in that state and have nothing good to offer in the way of words. I’m willing to bet that "Hillbilly" is a drain on the system by collecting some type of disability or getting aid in someway from OHIO and insisting on complaining about it.

I can relate with you on this post and glad it wasn't venomous. My state has plenty of problems as a lot of states do. I was quite surprised by the above list of what he perceived OH to be, and wondered why I never had heard before that OH was such a backwards state. Never been there but it's nice to know you are willing to defend it.

Im not sure why anyone form CA would want to POST about OHIO when they have never been here. I would sooner except harsh comments from you, being in another state, then Hillbilly who is from OHIO. One of the good things about Ohio is its mild weather. No extreme death weather.

Well, there was a reason not related to OH that brought me to this thread (which I might explain later). Since I am here I though, I would try to learn a little about your state.

Weather is important, and I love beautiful days. We are having cold storm here so going outside isn't really enjoyable today.

Ohio gets a great mix of all weather but nothing extreme like CA or New Orleans or Florida. Just cold once in a while

Why do you people, God's Only People blame or think people are Liberal, because they think this state isn't perfect. It isn't.
I will be honest with you, I have to get governemt assistance to provide for my cripple son. Should I give up the assistance, so you can become richer? Why don't you Neo-con;s give a dam about those of us who must use the government.
we pay the insurance company 33% of our annual income, and they will only keep him alive. So I ask you, what's wrong with accepting government assistance to give my son a CHANCE at a some what normal life?
Liberal have not controled this state for years, so if its as bad as he says, who do you think is responsible for the state of this state. You would have to admit, it's pretty bad when you can't eat the fish without poisioning yourself.

Hillbilly is stating his beliefs and facts that maybe ture, I don't know his sources so I can't judge one way or the other.
I would agree, that if he/she hates this state so much, then move. It's not perfect, but neither is any of the other 50. We all have problems.
Wealthy in Ohio, like to call people liberals, as if it hurts them. It remindes me of the 70's when calling someone a fag was the same. I don't blame liberal, nor do I hate them. I don't love conservatives either. Both sides are way to extreme for me.
The Liberals want to take from us and give it to the poor. The Conservaties take from us for corporate welfare. I could care less, my concern is that I may lose my house, which isn't worth much, to provide medical care for my crippled son.
Ohio may have alot of problems. I admit that and would hope that we could find solutions for some of them. But providing medical coverage to the crippled should not be a partisan issue. Both sides should want it.

I love Ohio and would not want to live anywhere else.

I'll give you the reason. Look at the location of the poster who started the thread. It's not an Ohio resident. I responded to this thread because the poster had been misbehaving in other forums, and I was warning you all not to get baited. He came to Ohio because he got run out of Texas. On the nice side, he has actually been behaving and contributing to valid discussion.
