Here is the scoop from the news: The Energy Department announced in May that it has narrowed its list of the most likely recipients of $18.5 billion in government loan guarantees to four companies. Exelon has started a hostile takeover attempt of one of those companies, NRG Energy, which wants to build two new reactors at its Voglte power plant near Bay City, Texas.

(BTW: And NRG is also extending their existing licenses.)

Now: Rowe said the initial $18.5 billion is not enough to help fund the expected first round of six to eight nuclear plants.

In fine: Don't you wonder how India can fund their nuclear efforts??

Well, they do pay their workers a lot less. They probably don't have to pay as much insurance, either. Remember how little assistance the victims at Bhopal got for their suffering.

India is much more likely to suffer a nuclear equivalent of Bhopal than we are.

The workers in a nuclear construction site are specialists and earn very high salaries. The same holds for the operations.

When you look at the cost of construction of a nuclear plant, and India is buying foreign plants, the materials and energy costs dominate the worker salaries by far. Now these being foreign reactors, the specialists would be the foreigners delivering a turn-key plant. So they would be paid their ample salaries by their employers in foreign lands like France.

Well, Bhopal was an operating chemical plant owned by DuPont. The victims were the local residents not just the plant workers. I don't know the insurance etc issues of the workers but I am a tiny bit familiar with the human suffering and loss in Bhopal since the disaster.

Does 'horrible' depict the Bhopal's consequences adequately?

Focusing on Bhopal alone here vis a vis the nuclear ambitions of India, we would be horrified further.

This is why I repeat OUR need for new paradigms. If we support India's nuclear ambitions for war reasons, WE are more likely to be risking our OWN lives in this ONE world.
