Westfield debates police coverage

with no police dept in westfield there wouldnt be any more speed traps there or bar baby sitting service so arm your self and get a right to protech law passed if the bad guys knew they were going to get there ass shot up there would be less crime and less taxs to pay to the court system to defend them and no need to build more jails

$10,000 is too little for the town to recieve police protection. Someone should be looking at how many hours the Village Police spend doing town work and then put a price on it. At $25.00 an hour that would be 400 hours in a year. Comes out to be just over an hour per day. On the other hand $70,000 seems way to much.

Why does Westfield even NEED a Police Dept?? It's absolutely ridiculous. Between the Sheriff's, State Troopers, Jamestown, Lakewood, Fredonia, Dunkirk, and Chautauqua Institution Police Departments, the tiny county with under 200,000 ppl do NOT need any more policing.
Plus, all Westfield cops do is harass EVERYONE they think they can fool and steel money and drugs from low lifes. Seriously, with Genthner in charge, crime can only go up.
Get rid of Westfield Police Department and put the money towards something worthwhile. Stop trying to be a retirement community that harasses anyone under the age of 60 and realize the residents are not all senior citizens.
Westfield has been trying to be something they're not for decades upon decades. Epic fail.

Anyone with a right mind can see that ALL towns/cities should have their own police department. Westfield already has enough losers like you in it that try to get away with crap. Without the wpd, we would really be in trouble. If you think about it idiot, the wpd brings in tax money for the community by pulling over speeders, picking up the dwi's, catching punks like you in action, etc. And Rob Genthner does one hell of a job. I am not sure with all the costs Westfield needs a police dept, but if they have one and they are doing calls outside the village they should be paid by the other towns and communities.

I've never been in trouble with the law, in Westfield or anywhere else. Nor am I an idiot and loser. I work, own a business, pay taxes, and dislike REAL crime. But, in Westfield, you have to look past all those kids getting picked up on small charges. Seriously, where are the BIG arrests? Oh wait, there hasn't been any. Yet, Westfield has a HUGE heroin and coke problem. No arrests for that. And why is it that under-paid police officers have expensive houses and cars?? Things to think about.

As for the "chief", you will one day see the man he is. It took years for the village to get rid of Brooker and Summerville. I just hope the next corrupt officer doesn't bring the whole village down with them.

Very diplomatic and true. ANYone that does a job should get paid for it. That's understandable and expected. But, the quality of the job should be looked into before an informed decision can be made.

I have asked and no one can tell me why it took 17 years for the contract issue to come up. Why the delay? Could someone please explain why its only a problem now and not the past 17 years??????

Hey starting over,are you kidding me? Do you even live in Westfield? Its obvious the standard of living in Westfield and the entire surrounding area has greatly decreased over the last 15 years or so. Look at the part Westfield from Main Street to Barcelona; its obvious that section of the village alone is reason enough for a police department. You also mentioned a heroine and cocaine problem in Westfield, well I am a recent graduate of Westfield high school and never once heard of or was offered heroine or cocaine throughout my tenure at Westfield. And if there is this apparent cocaine and heroine problem is that not just one more reason to justify the establishment of the Westfield Police Department. And you mention underpaid police officers driving nice cars and having nice houses? I'm not really sure what Westfield you live in but i believe the police officers at Westfield make enough money to own decent houses and cars, many coming from dual income households. Do you have evidence of the Westfield police stealing drugs and money? If so i would love to see or hear all about this.

Well, my friend, Ripley and Brocton are actually both considering to ADD Westfield police coverage. Is that because the Westfield police are a bunch of money and drug stealing losers that only harass younger people in the community? Thats obviously a rhethorical question but i doubt your simple mind could even recognize that. It is blatent that these communities are considering the Westfield police not only because they do a great job but because the State police and Sherriffs office cannot adequetly police these areas. Would demolishing the police department in Westfield solve this problem? No obviously not. Also you call out cheif Genthner in your posting. I would like to see any evidence you have against him. Oh wait it doesnt exist. Chief Genthner and the entire Westfield Police Department do an excellent service for the Westfield community. I do not tolerate ignorance and i dont usually put postings like this on the internet but you have made yourself look like a complete fool.
