1 The "grabbing the arm" story was the story of the driver who was facing major prison time for vehicular manslaughter. All of those kids were drunk in that car that night. It was a horrible accident that can unfortunately happen at any time, on any day when kids decide to drink and/or drive. Luckily, Indiana created the Romeo and Juliet law that will not allow someone like Ms. Wilcox go to prison for consensual sex with a fellow high school student. Prison time is for pedophiles - not kid's experimenting with sex. A 15 year old boy can say no. Sounds like some bitter, unforgiving families in Westfield!!! Easy to place blame to make ourselves feel better. |

Getaclue, you are wrong about one thing you said. Two were drunk, as you put it, and two were not.Unfortunatly, the two who were not died, and one of them did not want to go and was pressured to.
|
||||
Don't get me wrong, it is HORRIBLE that these young people died senselessly, but all 4 were out in the wee hours of the morning driving across the state. Those two did not deserve to die, but we can't pretend that kids this age didn't make some sort of choice that night. Even if they were not drunk, were they out in a car with people that were drinking? Or at the very least I'll bet they lied about where they were? We all tell our kids to call us if they get in this situation and pray they do. It's just all unfortunate, but no one put a gun to their head and made them get in that car with a drunk driver. |

You haven't got the facts straight. The POLICE REPORT IS WHERE THAT FACT CAME FROM. Next time. Allow yourself to be educated on the FACTS as they stand before proving yourself ignorant. SHE DESERVES MUCH MORE THAN WHAT SHE RECEIVED. |

"Here it comes"....you sound like one of those bitter, unforgiving family members or maybe one of their friends?? We are all human beings, you sound very quick to judge this young woman and her family. Hope no one in your family ever makes any mistakes.

I know her, have for YEARS, and she is exactly who I would expect to be doing these things. No judgement passed at all. Observing behaviors and her actions tells the complete and total story. Some human beings adhere more to the HUMAN part of being, than others. As for hoping no one in my family makes mistakes. THEY LEARN FROM THEIRS. end of comment |

So sorry to disappoint Katie from the paper that Laura wasn't sent to prison. Her story would have been a highlight for her.
Katie should report real crime that is happening in the county not kids doing what kids do. This was a case on consenting to each other kids no force. There is a difference and that is why the lawmakers have changed the law. Duh!!! For anyone to say Laura's family has not suffered or felt remorse. You do not know them. Nick will get his day in court and maybe this time he will tell the truth. If you do read the so called reporting it is always and I quote "the driver told the police the passenger pulled his arm". A police report is what is told to them not what is fact. The speed of the vechicle and driving impairment were the cause of the crash. Forgive those of you that are so bitter that you have to hate and are clouded as to remember being young. If you are so perfect as to your judgement put it to use and keep those groups going that hinder teenage drinking/activity rather than just be feeding off others pain. |
||||
You make the same mistake others seem to make in using the term unforgiving.Forgiving and asking for accountability are two totally separate issues, ask a clergyman that. I have! |

Unless I missed something, she has only gotten into the car with a drunk driver ONCE and only had a sexual relationship with ONE 15 yr old. Not to mention, the h*** she went through herself surviving that accident and seeing people she loved die. Can't imagine that had any impact on her (sarcasm!). If it makes any of you out there judging her feel better, this has all been horrible for her and her family as well.

Winter Park Florida is giving your precious anonimity away. Of course you wouldn't hold her or her family accountable. You agree that what she did is fine and "this is a case of consenting to each other, no force." Are you kidding? Do you understand the laws? And if your perfect children did that, it would be ok with you right, you'd hand them the "protection" they needed right? And what of your personal attack on Ms.Katie Whatever her name is. Her job is to report the news. So sad if you don't agree with the facts which are law based. The Truth can't come out. Laura has done so much lying that she has made her "bed" shall we say. She "screwed" up oops sorry for the pun. Get real and start studying the law. That reporter is in no way responsible for the fact that girl can't keep her legs together and prefers young boys. Oh, by the way, you have the wrong report. The facts in the report are that Laura Wilcox STATED that "she was just playing around" |

Nope, quite obviously, it hasn't. Hey, here's a question for you since the person posting above in Winter Park mentioned it. Why hasn't Laura's family participated in any way with the Westfield group started to hold kids and teens parents accountable? Where have they been? Why haven't they spoken out. To my knowledge none of the families have threatened them with lawsuits there should be no reason they shouldn't be as proactive as the Rices and the Woerners. These families LOST thier loved ones. At least they have been doing what is right and trying to help others. Wilcoxes have just stuck their scrawny little heads in the sand. Where have they been and why haven't they done anything. Oh, must be too busy. |
|||
|
As a young person did you EVER do anything that you are not too proud of? Better yet have total strangers and people you thought were your friends say horrible things about you and lies spread in an entire community about how you were to behave?
Your child or yourself must be perfect since you can easily say accountability is what we must ask of teenagers. |

OK, there are two different issues here. First the sex issue, then the wreck issue.
She was 18, the boy was 15. The Romeo and Juliet law recently passed would not even recognize this as a crime at this point in time. Come on, the guy was 15 and (assuming the article is correct) invited her into his house. I doubt this was the boys first experience as kids seem to be younger and younger when they have sex (not saying that they should). As far as the wreck is concerned, she wasn't driving. It does sound like she was horsing around with the driver who was apparantly intoxicated. Assuming the other two passengers were classmates, they all would have been around 16 years old. I knew better than to get into a car with a drunk driver when I was 16. What happened is a tragedy. I would not wish that on anyone; however, I think it is a stretch to lay the blame on this girl! Regardless, she does seem to have a history of making bad decisions and I pray that this will be enough to change her way of thinking! |

Your incorrect spelling of -vehicle- relates directly to your inccorrect information of the deaths of those two kids. Nick was .14 and LAURA WILCOX was .11, facts, do you dispute that? Have you actually seen the State Police Report? How about the Autopsy reports? How about the reconstructionist's report? I am sure you have all the information, correct? Drunk is drunk, but that's ok right because that's what kids do? Right? Stay off here. |
