I have 35 years in the contruction area there is nothining i cant do . read blue prints fix and repair someones mstakes layout job i have done it all is there anyone willing to help me and i have never called off or been late or have to repair my jobs

Your right .Companies that are doing just fine are jumping on the band wagon to short change and threaten their employees

Unless you own or have owned a business you do not understand alot of the cost of running the operation. What I am trying to say is your wrong!

Yes, there are jobs out there. But, they are through temp services. No benefits, 8.00 dollars an hour and not permanent. You can't raise a family on those jobs.The reports of good jobs in Columbus are misleading.

Moodys said the unemployment levels will hit 11.5% in 2010 much higher than expected and the highest level ever since WWII. The real unemployment rate is around 17% if you count in all those people who gave up looking for work and the part time workers who can't find FT work. How's that "hope & change" working out for you? These numbers don't even figure in the massive loss of jobs from Obama's cap & trade bill-(and the choking of the economy from that bill). It's very grim. The only brite side IMO is Obama will be a one-term president, anyone who runs against him in 2012 will win the election even if it's Micky Mouse.

Employment is often the last part of recovery out of a recession. I do agree with the poster who mentioned that the "real" unemployment rate is around 17%. Official statistics don't show the underemployed or those who are just first entering the workforce (new college grads for example).

StillWorking, no you are wrong there. It's not an excuse to cut benefits or wages. The cost to hire an employee is enormous, especially now. The cost of an employee to a business is much more than your wages. There is overhead such as health care insurance, unemployment insurance, office space or vehicles required, insurance on the business, etc. If a company isn't selling as much as before, it can't even support the employees it had during a profitable period.

Funny Manpower states all those openings..Im with manpower and get told there are from 0-3 openings...go figure that one out..IF this is true..then i was just lied too..

I don't deny there are companies that would do this, but my husband owns his own company (architecture) and he has had to cut salaries. He cut them about 5% and his own 25%. When he was able, he gave the employees back their 5%. He's trying hard not to cut employees since many have families and he doesn't want them to go through that shock. Not all do that.

Well anything related to building i believe but plenty others are not having problems.

Our Government is not paying attention to unemployment right now. They could care less. they hate private enterprise anyway and would rather run all the businesses themselves. They already own banking, Finance, and the auto industry. Next up... health care.

People can now be on unemployment for 99 weeks! That is almost 2 years. If the money was running out I guarantee some of these loafers would be more interested in taking jobs out of their classification. I agree that unemployment insurance is necessary but to keep extending it over 3 times the usual maximum (26 weeks in Ohio)is a double edged sword. The businesses are now going to be taxed an extra payroll tax to pay for this. Bottom line-we will end up paying for it with inflated prices. In my day we didn't have unemployment-we just worked at anything we could do. The 1940's weren't all they are cracked up to be truthfully. Nostalgia be damned.

There are job openings in Columbus, but as it is true in the national job market, the jobs are targeted to those with very specific skills and more importantly with experience. Employers today have their employees doing such specialized work that when you get laid off, it just doesn't translate into a similar job in another company. And most companies just don't want to train someone with basic skills...they want someone to just jump right in. So openings remain open and the unemployed remain unemployed. Really stupid!
