Having attended the fundraiser myself you could not of fit another person in the room it was packed with more than 200 enthusiastic supporters who listened to inspirational speaches by both Assembly David Townsend and Richard Smith. No Mayor Brown! I don't know what all the pre- fundraiser concern over Mayor Brown being in attendance was but he was not there! In all a very nice night, I did notice however when arriving that a Urtz cronnie in very poor taste had errected a large "Vote for Urtz" sign on his front lawn directly across from Richard Smith's fundraiser. How desperate can they be? Couldn't be because this persons daughter was recently appointed to a paying Town position.Gee what happened to we don't put political signs out before Labor Day John? Again another example of say one thing do another. Richard you have our votes!

Yes, It was a great success, but I want to take a moment to recognize those who worked the event.

Teri Smith, Riches wife, was definitly in control of the evening. She had a smile on her face and greeted those who walked through the door. She is a class act.(Even as she is serving coffee in white pants!!)

The children who helped were precious. The pride showed on their faces. Great job kids.

I noticed a father and brother helping, carrying water, taking out garbage. It was truly a family event.

Nephews and sister in laws helped served throughout the evening. One that deserves mention is his sister in law, who is a professional photographer. I did not see her take many pictures, however, I saw her carrying trays of spaghetti, dressed in a beautiful black dress, smiling the entire time. She was beautiful, entertaining, and definitly loves her family. I noticed at the end of the evening, her dress covered in spaghetti sauce, that she was still smiling as she was saying her good-byes. She made us laugh, and made us feel welcome.

Richard, you have a wonderful family, full of love and support. Your parents must be proud. Your a positive encouragement to this community.

Well Done.

To "Rich Supporter"...I am said "Professional Photographer/Waitress"... .Thank you for your compliments. Does anyone know a good dry cleaner :)

I wanted to say a huge thank you to everyone who came out to show support. As the one making trips up and down the stairs with trays of pasta, I can certainly say the room was constantly full. It was an overwhelming success. Thank you again for everyones encouragement.

If you havent gotten a chance to see this edition of the Rome Observer, make sure you grab your copy. Or see the article here:

http://www.romeobserver.com/site/news.cfm...

It was a great article about a great couple.

I, personally, look forward to the coming months of this campaign. I know for a fact that Rich is a man of honor and integrity. Its difficult for me, personally, to read negative statements about him, but I guess its all part of the process. I will, I'm sure, develop a thicker skin over the next few months.

Thank you again for a great evening. If last nights turn out was any indication about the support that Rich has, then I believe we are doing the right thing.

And a huge credit to Teri, who is my sister. She will make a great "First Lady". Im proud of the way she handles herself under pressure. Always with a smile and her way of making me laugh...

Your right you should be able to put what ever sign you want in your yard. I don't believe that was the question. In Lee it has been a practice or protocol that no candidates put signs out until after labor day in most places its 90 days prior to an election by code or ordinance. If it had been within that time period I don't believe it would of even been mentioned. This was just another desperate move and in very poor tatse,I think this person has done more to hurt the Urtz campaign than help it. Thank you!

Bull, you'd have mentioned it no matter what. People can put any signs up in their yard they like and you have no idea if Urtz even knew this person did it.

You are just jumping to conclusions because of what I can only guess is an oversensitivity to opposing opinion.

Rich seems to have a lot of really nice people who support him but they just don't seem to have the stomach for ideological conflict or politics in general. Time for some thicker skin i think.

I have yet to decide who I am going to support. Smith is impressing me. John is going to have to earn the vote this year. It is not going to be automatic.

Having said that, there has been an unwritten agreement not to litter the town with political signs before Labor Day for as long as I remember, going back before Urtz's time. He may not have known about the sign going up, but he sure as heck should make sure it is taken down NOW. I (we oldtimers) don't want to see this trash before Labor Day from either candidate.

Period.

What an awesome night! Richard Smith is the right man at the right time as he said in his speech. I think he's the only man that will be left standing and in leadership of this community. What a positive and dynamic leader; one in whom i will be proud to vote for. All you voters, no matter what party you belong to, vote for Richard. It's a matter of priciple and good moral choice!!

By the way just thought I'd let you know Mr. Urtz did know the sign was up as I witness him driving by looking at it.If your going to comment on Lee Politics I suggest you move here and start taking a part in it and learning what really goes on here, such as the standing policy of not putting out political signs before labor day!

What people do or put in their own lawn is none of your business.

A sign isn't any different then Smith putting flyers out at Stewarts about a month ago.

I see Tony Darcangelo is littering his district with lawn signs already. That will surely cost him some votes. The anti-incumbency movement is going to hurt both of these guys and they are just adding fuel to the fire with their roadside rubbish.

"Grow up" is right.

The anti-incumbency movement? LOL. Darcangelo has nothing to do with Urtz or vice versa. I'm personally sick of the pathetic nit-picks and baseless generalizations.

They don't even seem to care if it's blatantly obvious to the rest of us that their motivations are personal and not political. But hey, its par for the course in central NY, maybe they can start their own "friends and family program" like Raefero has in Utica.

The funniest part is the only mature and honest person on here supporting Smith is the only one who should actually care about it personally - his sister in law.

You should follow her example children.

Yet yours is so full of meaning that you have all this spare time to make a commentary on our lives?

Why don't you tell us all to what a "meaningful" life looks like, enlightened one.

Driver...my fault. I put the flyers in Stewarts. Not Rich. Two fold reasons for that move. One, I created the flyers and was hoping to generate some interest in my marketing skills (only half kidding there lol) and secondly, yes, I know Mr. Urtz frequently stops in for coffee, as I myself do every morning. I really wanted Mr. Urtz to get information on Rich in the beginning so he did not think he was just some guy who "came out of the woodwork" and that Rich was an established man who has alot of qualifications needed for this position.

And about the sign in the front yard....John is realizing that he is now involved in a Campaign. He is just doing what he feel needs to be done. It is actually, to me, a sign (no pun intended) that he feels that Richard is a valid opponent. And if he was driving by, that also means he saw the 200 cars in the parking lot. That can only be a good thing. Think positive folks!

So you think he asked for that sign to be placed?

Daily Horoscope for December 9

Sagittarius

Watch out. Your mind is working overtime in full analytical mode, but you may be leaping to unfounded conclusions and reading too much into situations. The result of all this is that you might start to suspect someone's honesty or loyalty, and wonder what exactly they're up to. Don't accuse them of anything awful just yet because it may turn out that you were totally wrong about them.
